I just watched some other guntuber do the drop from chest height straight on to the optic on a concrete slab and while the test is a bit on the extreme side and unlikely to be a common event, I think if they added some rubber or even plastic in the right spots it would help with these drop the hard aluminum glass enclosure on to concrete with a 1.8lb pistol on top. I still haven't seen anyone do the smash test with the S version but I can see a market for a plastic 3d printed, attaches to the magnetic top of the optic and wraps around a little bit to act as a smash plate of all the Hulks out there that like to smash.... 
Edit, it's doubtful that magnetic cover would stay in place during slide recoil, the quick ghetto bumper would be a bead of black silicone applied in a few key spots...
