New 2025 Olight OSight Launch & New Products

I just watched some other guntuber do the drop from chest height straight on to the optic on a concrete slab and while the test is a bit on the extreme side and unlikely to be a common event, I think if they added some rubber or even plastic in the right spots it would help with these drop the hard aluminum glass enclosure on to concrete with a 1.8lb pistol on top. I still haven't seen anyone do the smash test with the S version but I can see a market for a plastic 3d printed, attaches to the magnetic top of the optic and wraps around a little bit to act as a smash plate of all the Hulks out there that like to smash.... :)

Edit, it's doubtful that magnetic cover would stay in place during slide recoil, the quick ghetto bumper would be a bead of black silicone applied in a few key spots...

And just how many of the red dots on the market can survive such a "test"? Are we picking on the OSight or do all of others pass the test?

I suspect none to extremely few, are capable of passing such a trial and as such a video that shows one failing is silly because it ignores all the others that would fail the same test.

Mrgunsandgear said the same thing..... most of the large format window units can't take severe impacts on steel and concrete.... it's a bit silly. The only thing that would improve the results is a softer material on the outside to absorb some of the impact and the use of something like Corning's gorilla glass.

I think people can take these torture tests a bit far, but at the end of the day most of us won't drop our pistols in this manor and if we did by accident somehow and the glass broke... it sure looks like Osight will warranty it.

Like I said, my concern would be if my handgun was drop safe over my optic.

That's what co witness iron sights are for.

Especially if you own a SSP320

I'm glad to hear that. I just bought a "new in the box" OSight to run on a PCC. Thought I'd give it a try and the price was right ... like half what I paid for a Holosun. I do like the Holosun a lot but having multiple $600 sights adds up pretty quickly.

Holosun still gets my vote of confidence as the economical red dot brand of choice for everything up to abd including duty/defensive use. Aaron Cowan of Sage Dynamics considers only the Trijicon RMR, the Aimprint Acro and the Holosun 500 series as suitable for duty use, following a punishing testing cycle that includes multiple shoulder height drop tests onto concrete.

I have examples of all of the major brands, but of all my electronic optics the majority are Holosun....

It seems like only yesterday Holosun was an upstart red dot manufacturer.... same with olight and their flashlights,

It's a sign of the times how fast things can move, and speaking of moving, it's also a sign of the times that both companies are planning on bringing their manufacturing to the US. It's a new trend that companies that started with Chinese manufacturing are leaving China and relocating production in the US

Cheap labour is no longer the advantage it was, the new labour cost is energy.

Olight is moving manufacturing to North America?
That is good news.
I have many of their products that are used daily and I have had no failures yet.

It was mentioned by the Osight rep, not sure if that means all products including olight but they say they will be manufactruing some Osight products in the US in the future. Holosun is doing the same.

Am i understanding correctly that the X has a charging cover that fully accommodates night sights now? That was probably my only holdback from the original.
They have modified the cover to clear sights that were previously too close to fit, if that was your issue with your nightsights your probably good to go

Osight S arrived a couple days ago, I've mounted it on an Advantage Arms Optic Cut G19 .22lr conversion slide using a MOS to RMSc adapter plate and it looks great! The extra height from the adapter is blocking a bit of the low sights on the AA slide, without the extra plate the stock sights would be fully viewable through the optic.

I have astigmatism and the reticles look nice to my eyes, I've gotten used to shooting slightly "flared" red dots due to my astigmatism. Some dots are better then others and for my eyes the Osight S looks great!

The controls are intuitive and easy to use.
