New .308 Project UPDATED - Range Report

50 The B&C stocks are great value, unfortunately at this time they are not legally allowed to be exported as B&C has not decided yet if there is enough foreign sales to warrant the $3300.00 per year DOS registration fee.
The few B&C Tactical/Varmit stocks I have left are all basic other than color and range from $350.00 to $410.00 depending on color.
The B&C adjustable and Odessy stocks we had flew out the door as soon as it became known that supply was going to be doubtful.

i have stock 700p I've been shooting for the past 5 years on and off, whenever I'm not out of the country. I've probably got 500 rounds of factory match thru it, and 1500 rds of reloads thru it. Question is, how do I know when the barrel is all shot out and needs to be replaced? Are there tell tale signs?

nza, you start missing more often then normal ie you start getting flyers. Then quickly group size will double, even triple. Vertical stringing is a sure sign things are close to kapoot.

A 308 should give you sub MOA performance well into 4000rds fired if loads are not overly hot. Some are saying 10,000rds but I doubt that is sub MOA accuracy.

Jerry

Thanks jerry,
My reloads are just cusping the recommended grains, so I'm good for at least another 2000 rounds, or another 5 years =) War needs to stop so I can get more time shooting.

Navy Shooter had over 7,000 rds. on his factory Rem. .308 Win. barrel before he went with a Mike Rock 5R. He regularly shoots competitions with NSRA with his rig.

From the sounds of it, you're a long way off before considering replacing the barrel. You'll no doubt grow bored of shooting .308 Win. and chamber it for something else before wear becomes an issue.

IT will be better to get a whole new SPS rifles and strip down to the action, and sell the barrel and stock, I just did one for myself in 260 rem with Ted Gaillard barrel"6.5mm" it shoot to 1/4 moa. there is nothing wrong with the action, the trigger need some work, but I manage to get it down to 2 pound.

Beautiful, Nothing like that, here are my latest 260rem!
Regular SPS, dint true action or anything, just thread and ream new barrel with 260rem reamer, adjust trigger, AICS stock with NightForce scopes NSX 5.5-22X55mm OBJ.

WHY would anyone put that amount of money into building a rifle and NOT true up the action????????????????
Let me guess you are also the same guy that would put bias ply recapped tires on your Ferrari:eek:

Well you sure did not waste anytime putting THAT together, Good God we only shipped you those parts yesterday:D

I don't believe you need to true the action on regular SPS SA or LA, my shoot to 1/4" at 100meter, next week when I have time it will be tested out to 500meter, I was there 2 week ago at Genesee, and Randy Sinclair was there also, people can spend as much money as they wanted, but in my opinion is a waste. Oh yet had talk to another guy at the range about bringing rifle to you"ATRS" for work, you also wanted to charge him for putting your Signature on his Barrel, but he would pay for the work, just like Throwing money away or Burning it...

As usual I am having a hard time understanding your gibberish, but I think I get the gist, that you were out bad mouthing me again at the range.

I do not put my signature on my work, but maybe I should, it did wonders for Picasso. We do NOT charge ANYONE for the laser or CNC cut engraving that we use to mark calibers on our barrels it is all part of the job. Marking of calibers on rifle barrels, by the way, is mandatory for gun makers.

The last time I saw the Registration Certificate, there was no Caliber mention on there, so why would you need to put caliber on the barrel?, I am not bad mouthing you, but from Conversation with several people, the word I heard was OVER PRICE, but if some one wanted your work, I think that ok, if they wanted to pay, but I stick with what work, Oh by the way, I heard you new nick name was is STOCK POLICE!

I don't hold a gun to anyones head and force them to use my services, many people want QUALITY work and customer service that is second to none, and are willing to pay for it. I have NO shortage of work so must be doing something right.

I have no problem with a few internet morons who want to call me names for posting information they don't want to hear. Many guys are not up to date on the latest rulings from DOS. Some people actually prefer to get products legally and others just don't care. As long as the party directly involved makes an informed choice and KNOWS the risks being taken by circumventing the laws, thats cool with me, just as long as they don't whine when they get jacked up.
I do not like people getting into trouble because of misinformation from some of the "experts" on the various internet sites. I have no moral superiority complex, just far too much to loose to not import EVERYTHING through legal means.
Lately the DOS has made many changes in export controlls, if you read and understood some of the recent posts you would see that in most cases I am correct in the info I pass along, sometimes it just takes others a little longer to reach the same findings I already have ben advised of.
Call me what you like, I could care less. I have been called alot worse by FAR better men than you.

I think the requirement for a gun maker to put a calibre designation comes from liability issues. You would be leaving yourself wide open to a lawsuit if you didn't.

That is a big part of it for sure.
The CFC asks for caliber when registering, transferring, and altering a rifles caliber requires a verifiers report.
Why registration certificates do not include caliber or any other useful info for that matter has always eluded me.
