WHAT................that's a R...R....Ru....RuuuGER...

so,...you take .02 off the bullet diameter and call it improved....so, if you take off another .03" what is it.....:p

I was all fired up to ask you who had the reamer for the 358 Imp...as I have a new SS 35 cal blank in the corner....

Do the stainless rugers not come with stainless rings?

yes it did, but I replaced them with Leupold lows, which will better fit the 2.5-8x36 vx3 I plan on mounting.

A purple Leupold would match the stock perfectly. :nest:

purple? get your eyes checked newf! 80% black 20% white KOOLAID :dancingbanana:

Very nice! What'cha planning on blasting with it.:)

A nice big bull elk will be the main hunt this fall

How is it improved when the .358 is a bigger bore using heavier bullets? Nice looking rifle however!

Because the 338f does anything the 358 will up close, but not be a handicap if I am faced with a 350 or 400 yard shot. I've seen 4 elk shot since I started hunting them in 2007, average distance is about 60 yards. A 35 Rem would work just fine. But theres always the chance of a poke across a cut or swamp, nice to have a rifle that has a bit of legs if needed, while still being fairly compact and portable (compared to 24" barreled 7mm & 300 Mags)

here's a bit of a comparison :

308 Win 168gr TTSX @ 2700 fps
+2" @ 100y, -8.5" @ 300y, -24" @ 400y
400y velocity = 2000 fps, energy = 1500 ft lbs

308 Win 180gr Accubond @ 2600 fps
+2" @ 100y, -8" @ 300y, -23" @ 400y
400y velocity = 2075 fps, energy = 1700 ft lbs

338F 185gr TTSX @ 2750 fps
+2" @ 100y, -8" @ 300y, -23" @ 400y
400y velocity = 2025 fps, energy = 1700 ft lbs

338F 225gr Accubond @ 2500 fps
+2" @ 100y, -10.5" @ 300y, -28.5" @ 400y
400y velocity = 1950 fps, energy = 1900 ft lbs

358 Win 200gr TSX @ 2700 fps
+2" @ 100y, -9.5" @ 300y, -27" @ 400y
400y velocity = 1825 fps, energy = 1500 ft lbs

358 Win 225gr Accubond @ 2500 fps
+2" @ 100y, -11.5" @ 300y, -31" @ 400y
400y velocity = 1800 fps, energy = 1625 ft lbs

there ya have it folks. :dancingbanana:

my counter top is the same color. just kidding. I would never consider the 338 federal as an imp 358 win. Both are 200yd-250y rifles the 358 just makes a bigger hole. The 358 win has to be one of the most under appreciated cartridges ever. Calling the 338 federal a 300 to 400yd cartridge is a huge stretch. the 358 win has to be one of the most under-appreciated cartridges ever.

I think it's a sweet looking rifle, in a nice caliber.

That McMillan stock is pretty similar colour pattern to what I put on my .416RM. But instead of a white, I had mine moulded with grey and brown streaks.
