New 870`s have problems?

I bought an express three years ago, it's been good to me ...the only issue I had was cheap federal trap loads would get stuck. I've read that if you polish the chamber with steel wool, this will fix the problem. I haven't done this yet but plan to. I love mine.

Same Deal as Metropolis, I got mine couple or three years back. Super-Mag. I will on occation get rounds stuck, but I find its Winchester, not Federals. I other problem I've had is it not feeding rounds all the time, most likely due to a short shuck, on my part. Gun works great, I love it, and would never get rid of it.
I do notice a trigger differnce between it and the Wingmaster though.

Remington has had some quality control issues as of late. A friend of mine just bought a 870 with the factory duracoat package. When he disassembled it large nickel sized chunks of the duracoat flaked right off.

That being said, Remington did the right thing and sent him a brand new gun.

Only problem I have ever had with an 870 is that the follower got stuck in cold weather as the shell tube does shrink in very cold weather and the follower would get stuck the fix was smaller follower... other than that no problems...

I took some course grit sandpaper to my follower, and took just a fine layer off of it, then some fine and smoothed it up, and have since fixed the follower problem.

I've had mine since about February and the only problem i've had was a friend shooting, 2 winchester and one federal target loads got stuck on him out of a box of 25each

I've been hearing about the "problem new 870" from friends too, but never seen it happen.
I'm working on buying one now for bird season, because frankly, I don't believe it's anything other than user error.

Never had a functional problem on mine. I just didn't like the finnish. Not very waterproof. A nice blueing would be better but that is what you get when you pay for a nicer shotgun like the wingmaster. Same gun, almost all the same parts, better care, attention and metal treatment.

In my 1 year old 870 Express fired shells will sometimes hang up in the chamber.

I've only used Fed Field & Range, Fed Top Gun, and those Winchester All purpose loads that they sell at Wal-Mart.

A brand new shotgun shouldn't be so unreliable. I now hate Remington and will never buy another gun from them.

I'll sell you one cheaper than new. It's just way too complicated for me to use correctly :D

I got mine a little over a year ago. It kept jamming with just about every brand I tried. After taking it back to the store 4 different times I think its finally fixed (fingers crossed). A buddy of mine has an old 870 and it is smooth as butter, I think the QC must have gone down at Remington over the years? People have tried to tell me that its just the shells im using but the funny (or not so funny) thing is that my $200 Maverick 88 has never jammed on me using all the same ammo. Don't get me wrong I still like the gun and don't have any hate for Remington, I just think its lame since they have such a great reputation and history.

Ok touche... I'll admit that there have to be some lemons out there and you may have gotten one. It probably just needs a little polishing here and there and then it will be fine,
I'm actually after one of the new Nitros.

Bought one and it jammed within the first couple shots. So much so that I couldn't move the forearm at all, and had to disasemble the reciever to get the casing out. Took the rifle back and exchanged it for a second one. Same issue. Turned out to be burrs and poor finishing inside the chamber that was allowing the brass to get hung up on. Took it back too because I didn't feel like dealing with it. Looking at a Browning BPS but not too keen on the bottom eject, and a Benelli nova, but can't stand the forearm rattle.

I think I'll still go with the 870, but I'll be really really picky on which one I purchase. I'll get the clerk to bring out a couple, I'll inspect, assemble, cycle all of them, and when I think I found one that'll work, I'll get him to throw a few rounds through it into the water tank.

As a side note, why can't one of the companies take a look at the major shotguns that are out there right now, figure out what people like in them, and what they don't, then combine it all to make one gun that everybody is happy with?
