New 870`s have problems?

wow, some of the cry babys on this site!

Well it appears that you have missed my all of my points completely. But I am not going to debate this anymore.

HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD ANY GOOD OR BAD EXPERIENCES WITH RELATIVELY NEW 870s?

I think my response to your post was just fine. Dont throw a fit 'cause I dont feel the same way as you.

As I said I like my express just fine.

..........as I already said if you dont like remmys then buy a mossburg or a chinese gun.
My express has spend many months bumping around on commercial fishing boat, a ton of time in the bush and just as much time in my hands and is yet to fail.

Yes, my wingmaster "looks" nicer but do the metal parts make it any more reliable?
NOPE
Now as for the "savings" maybe remingtons aren't any cheaper but it is a lot more expensive to make them.

oh and I do belive the chinese guns have metal trigger groups!

If all you're after is a hard knocks beater then an Express or a Chinese gun is accepable, if you want quality and are paying Wingmaster or 'P' money for it then you'll probably be disappointed if you've spent any time around the older guns.

well yeah thats what an express is for. my wingmaster was bought at reliable in the '60's.

My Express is about a year old. I went with the Express because I wanted a left handed shotgun. Had Dlask make me a 14in barrel and Casey at Tacord did some work on it too. I've put about 2000 rounds through it and it's functioned flawlessly.

Thank you, that is what I was trying to confirm from the beginning- should have let you make this point in the first place.

Same Deal as Metropolis, I got mine couple or three years back. Super-Mag. I will on occation get rounds stuck, but I find its Winchester, not Federals.

Same with me. Steel wool helped as well as keeping it well lubricated. Anything other than cheap walmart winchester shells work fine.

i bought one in 20ga. now i dont shoot it much but when i take it out the works great.
this year it finally feels worked in, 425 round mark. it never jams and all i shoot is winchester walmart ammo. no steal wool just shoot and clean.

this year i went with g96 guncleaner and lube, use to use hoppes no.9.

rain or shine my 870 works.

now with that said it was stiff at first, but now its all good :)

All the people knocking the 870 express for platic trigger guards, are completely missing the point. When it comes to aesthetics, you get what you pay for. Want metal, Pay for metal.

If you want the cheapest gun p[ossible, you'll have to deal with spackle instead of blueing and plastic instead of aluminum. However I agree with those who posted that plastic ain't bad they don't fail either. It is just aesthetics, and as far as that goes to all the 870 haters out there I don't like your FACE. It is cheap and ugly. :) As you can see, the aesthetics argument is invalid. You could just as easily say you wanted a solid gold gun, but at $350 or so, your head is still in your ass.

ah someone does hear me.......

I have a new Express that jams constantly and a Super Magnum that works fine.

Neither compares to an older model Wingmaster. Much better machining on the older guns. Even the new Wingmasters are not made as well as those from 20 years ago. My old Wingmaster has been through hell and back since 1987 and it cycles better than any of my new 870s. I am not impressed by the current model Wingmaster. It does not appear to be much different in quality than the current Express model.

I've had nothing but good luck after working on my detents.
My 870 express has be nothing short of awesome, 2000+ rounds cheapo walmart ammo through it.

Not to mention 480 rounds in one day, including four people that had never shot a firearm before cycling rounds and shooting clays.

I have owned and currently own more 870's than will fit in most gun safes. The older wingmasters are very nice, smooth guns with virtually no problems. Newer express guns lack the attention to detail and quality of the wingmaster but are still very functional and relaiable guns. I've had my 870 express super mag for over 8 years and it's probably fired in the neighbourhood of 30 000 rounds with minimal cleaning. I am beginning to experiance a few little problems associated with wear and abuse but I'd be willing to bet that few guns would take the abuse this one has and still keep going. I wouldn't trust anything but an 870.

Plastic content up, Quality down. Cost remains the same.

:agree:

Also, I understand that the plastic stuff is not flying off and hitting anyone in the face..... but why the hell would anyone champion it:eek: It sucks and you know it. I can't wait till one of you guys finds the first norinco stamp on the 'ol express you just bought:D they are not cheap enough for this stuff.

:agree: X2

Well here it is, not well I heard it from a friend of a friend. But first hand experience with a turd.
My first shotgun was an 870 supermag. 50rds and the locking lugs started to peen on back.(yes the end cap was on tight) Nice heat treat there remmy . Had all the issues with FTE (rough chamber) no matter what loads went through it.
Take a look at the pics of my first and last 870.

Im done with Remington now, thats 2 guns(bad experience with a 572) that never should have followed me home. Should have took the hint the first time.

^^^

Ouch.

I've never had issues like that but next time I want a quality brand new traditional style pump I'm going with Ithaca.

purchased and 870, fired 100 rounds, every 2nd round got stuck, sold it.. best decision I could have made.. polishing the chamber worked well for about 20 rounds.. then back to the sticking. didnt matter on the make or load of the shells. just a bad gun. my cousing has the identical gun. Never had a problem... hit and miss I guesse.
