New 9mm...which one to pick?

I am pretty new to handguns, Ive fired and handled a Browning Hi-Power and a Sig P225, but thats about it in terms of handguns. Got lots of rounds downrange on rifles & scatterguns, but now I am looking for my own new 9mm, so far I have rounded it down to three that are about in my price range and pretty much what I am looking for. I am looking at either a S&W M&P, Ruger SP9, or Springfield XD9. If I had a bit more money I would go for a Sig probably, but I dont think its an option just yet. What do you guys think I should go to. Feel free to add in some of your personal choices in there. I have somewhat small hands, a Hi-Power was a little big for my hand if that gives you an idea. Is there anywhere around Ottawa where I could handle some of these?

Of those listed I can say the MP9 and XD9 are good choices for small hands. To further complicate things I'll tell you the Glock 17 and CZ 75 are also good choices. I haven't had a chance to handle/shoot a ruger SR9.
 
Saw that thing (Sig P250 Tactical digi camo), not too fond of the digi camo on that though, personal taste i guess. So far im pretty much down to either the M&P or the XD9 (suspected that to be honest, the Ruger is pretty new and and is going through some factory refitting right now)

Keep the opinions coming though, this is a big purchase for me so I want to make sure its the right one.
 
I have both the M&P 9mm and the XD-9. If I had to get rid of one it would be the M&P. I like everything about the XD, works great, looks great. Both guns come with some accesories, but I like the XD acc. better.

From you list I will take M&P. very nice gun with better sight. But it is not a better gun than XD, XD is diffcuilt to get parts from what I've heard. M&P also hit and miss but over all a very good gun for the money. Don't rule out Glock and CZ as they are decent shooting iron too.

Now, for another question, who sells them here in Canada? I see frontier taxidermy has them, who else though? I doubt I would be able to get a military discount of some sort with any of them?

Thanks very much guys, the more I read about the M&P, the more I like. Id love to get my hands on one before purchasing though. If you are in the ottawa area and dont mind a little show and tell, pm me, I am a member of the NCRRA.
 
I picked up a Sig 226 St not to long ago, scrimped and saved for about 6 mos and I can honestly say that it was worth the wait. If you don't need it now or can wait a bit, Wolverine and Questar have some 226's on for reasonable prices right now. Spend the extra money over the others you won't regret it :), cheers

If you can get your hands on a Bul Storm I think you will be hooked. My wife has one and it works flawlessly. Feels amazing in your hand and has some quality craftmanship to boot! Transmark sells them as "improved" CZs and I believe it. You have to try one if you can. Marstar has been out of stock since day one so that should say something about them. They were designed by a group of champion ISPC shooters. $600 for the blued version.

I love my Glock 17 but you said you had small hands so I don't think it would fit the bill.
 
Another vote for the M&P 9mm, mine has been great.

For smaller hands, the Sig 226 sometimes is a little too big to get a proper grip. That being said, Sigs are very nice guns (but you pay for what you get).

Try out as many as you can (especially those on your list) before you buy.

As far as who to buy from, Frontier Taxidermy has been excellent to deal with.

Well, if your looking for something for a small hand, then the SR9 may be the way to go. The grip is very thin on it. I havn't heard anything bad about the way it shoots, but I have not shot it myself to be able to give an opinion on that.

I have an M&P, and it is a good gun for the price. But I prefer my Beretta PX4!!
