Ok, so I took my new acquisition to the range yesterday to see how it works.
Keep in mind that I did not develop any specific loads for this rifle, I used some ammo already loaded for another Vanguard.
This is what I shot; 180 Norma SPFB Dual cores; 180 old Silvertips; 165 Ballistic Tips; 165 Scirocco II.
The Norma bullets shot best, the Scirocco II's the worst....that being said, no 3-shot group was larger than 1.125"
I mounted and bore sighted a VX II 3-9x40 Leupy I had laying around. Set one target at 28 yards to verify, and then the rest at 100.
My first shot at the 28 yard target was dead center, but 3½" high, so I adjusted down to ½" low, verified by a second shot at 28.
Then I shot two consecutive groups with the 180 Norma bullets/IMR 4831, allowing to cool between groups and doing a slight adjustment between them.
I was very pleased to see both those groups sub-moa....I have posted targets below.
I then shot a group with the old-style WW 180 Silvertip/60.0 Norma MRP....also very gratifying at .61" C to C.
Next up were the 165 Ballistic Tips/59.0 H414[Slow lot 10] Group was just over moa at 1.05"
Also shot the 165 Ballistic tips with 59.0 Reloder 17...looks good at .81" had one shot out with 2 touching. [maybe me?]
Finally the 165 Scirocco II/59.0 W760[slow lot 131] It shot higher than anything else had, and also was the biggest group at 1.125"
All in all, I am very pleased with a rifle that looks good and shoots so well.
Regards, Dave.
