New Acquisition....WOW!! Pics [and groups POST 26] added.

Pretty.......she is.
Soooo, do tell, Tony Lama's and the fine Stetsun capella when you take her
out on a date?
One shant be sport'in sneeker's and blew jeans tot'in that gal at the range?

I've been smitten by a couple Lazerguards. After buying anything there's a period of assessment and evaluation, how it works and shoots and so on. Those Lazerguards are a heck of a lot of rifle for the money, or even without considering the money.

One cuff in and one out?
Is there a proper dress code for this?
Right handed, left cuff out or is it a gender thang?
Belt or suspenders...............or........both?

Gaaaad, I live a sheltered life.

Dear God! NEVER both....

Ok, so I took my new acquisition to the range yesterday to see how it works.

Keep in mind that I did not develop any specific loads for this rifle, I used some ammo already loaded for another Vanguard.

This is what I shot; 180 Norma SPFB Dual cores; 180 old Silvertips; 165 Ballistic Tips; 165 Scirocco II.
The Norma bullets shot best, the Scirocco II's the worst....that being said, no 3-shot group was larger than 1.125"

I mounted and bore sighted a VX II 3-9x40 Leupy I had laying around. Set one target at 28 yards to verify, and then the rest at 100.

My first shot at the 28 yard target was dead center, but 3½" high, so I adjusted down to ½" low, verified by a second shot at 28.

Then I shot two consecutive groups with the 180 Norma bullets/IMR 4831, allowing to cool between groups and doing a slight adjustment between them.

I was very pleased to see both those groups sub-moa....I have posted targets below.

I then shot a group with the old-style WW 180 Silvertip/60.0 Norma MRP....also very gratifying at .61" C to C.

Next up were the 165 Ballistic Tips/59.0 H414[Slow lot 10] Group was just over moa at 1.05"
Also shot the 165 Ballistic tips with 59.0 Reloder 17...looks good at .81" had one shot out with 2 touching. [maybe me?]

Finally the 165 Scirocco II/59.0 W760[slow lot 131] It shot higher than anything else had, and also was the biggest group at 1.125"

All in all, I am very pleased with a rifle that looks good and shoots so well.

Regards, Dave.

wow, good shooter too!

the wife really liked the Lazerguard... it's just too pretty for my current tastes. I'm not quite at the 'hunting slippers' stage yet. :)

congrats on the purchase.

Yes, it seems the older I get, the more I appreciate deep blue and fancy wood!! :)

Gotta like rifles that shoot without even trying. It seems to be a Vanguard trait.

So true....I have several, and they all like to shoot well. My 270 is a S1, and still very accurate, my 300WSM is the same.

Very nice, and many great loads out there to develop and achieve half inch groups.

I would not be a bit surprised to find a load that would shoot close to ½moa with this rifle. I must load up some Accubonds.

I just measured the throat length on this rifle, and while not long at all, is about .030" longer than my first S2 in 30-06,
so when I load up more ammo, I will move my bullets out a bit and see what happens.

Cheers, Dave.

There is something to be said for nice wood and deep polished blue steel. Seems in the last few years more and more rifles are being built without polished blue metal work, which is sad to see. Nice looking rifle indeed you have there.

That the way is goes. Bead blast the finish and call it "non-reflective". Put a $2 injected injection molded stock on and call it "weather-proof". Put plastic or cast crap bottom metal on and call it "lightweight". Piss down your back and tell you its raining.

Dogleg; That definitely got a chuckle out of me!! :) Sooo true, though.

Dave.

Did you try any RL22 yet Dave? Nice rifle!

Not yet! But it and Reloder 19 as well as Norma 204 are on the agenda to try.

Just a side note. After firing 25+ rounds out of it, I cleaned it up and borescoped it.
No copper to speak of during cleaning, and none apparent with the borescope.
Bore looks mighty smooth and consistent inside.

I'm pretty pleased with this rifle. Dave.

Nice!
