New Arrivals !!! Yugoslav Era M59/66 SKS Rifles Now in Stock !!!

How is everyone cleaning and preserving their wood?

So beautiful yet so so dirty

Personally, hot water, simple green, and a tooth brush for metal components. For the stock, I use a scribe to clean out the cracks and crevasses, and a hair dryer and shop towels to pull some of the grease out. Little Birchwood Casey stock wax to finish 'er off.

Here a trick, it work good, unwrap the rifle from the brown paper, take clear plastic (Saran wrap) and wrap it tight, just leave a little opening at the muzzle, put muzzle down in a carbadge can , put in direct sunlight on a warm day, wait a couple hours, after 90% of the cosmo will have drain at the muzzle.

Thanks all, got mine yesterday and was so excited I stayed up late getting her all cleaned up. Getting the bayonet off was "fun" but it looked like the only way to get all the cosmoline out. The firing pin retainer was also tighter than I have ever experienced before but we got her taken down. Beautiful gun just two things:

1) My receiver cover had a pretty noticeable wear/scratch area maybe about 1.5x1.5cm, was there before I started cleaning so thought it was either from handling or from storage. Not the end of the world, was just wondering if anyone knew of a sticky or post on how to refinish or clean up something like that.

2) When I was pulling through the barrel I was getting more than just cosmoline. It really looked like there was some fouling and the patches were coming through black. Any chance these have been fired or test fired? Did anyone else have this?

With my Yugo m48, people were saying that those folks take the firearms out of storage to be inspected and fired, then put back in the grease again, not sure if this is the case or how often they are checked!

Man I can't imagine testing firing a rifle that greasy, safely that is....
From what I was told they remove the wax then reapply, at least that's what was said on the M48 thread, could be all BS.
Could be a combination of issued and unissued rifles in this batch of 59/66!

It's for sure possible, but I'm just trying to imagine the man power necessary to de-grease, then re-grease such greasy rifles haha.

These rifles were fabricated, tested and put in cosmoline, they were never issue to no one, mines are out in the world for the first time…:)
