Geez.... a MOD has HIjacked me!
I'm taking the meat cutting course at the college here,
I went there on sunday and found huge mulie sheds. She owns 300 acres there. I did'nt see any deer so I figure they winter there. Have you ever hunted around there?
But if you found sheds, you know where they'll be when the weather gets cold. Won't be that long from now i'd think before they start moving.
Steyr101 said:As luck would have it (I was following this thread quite closely, it was good for a laugh) I was out hunting grouse on Sunday with my nice new Browning BSS in 20 gauge.
Well, I was wandering around looking for an ideal place for a new ladder stand I bought, and as I bent down to examine a rather large deer track, I heard a twig snap... as I looked up... I see a black bear not 20 feet from me. I was in a small clearing and he was just inside the bush, probably watching me the whole time I was there.
I stood up and slowly reached for the two 20 gauge slugs I had in my pocket. I craked the gun and slipped them in... When I closed the gun he spun around and took off.
I must say however, I felt a little undergunned. I would have went after him had I had my new .45-70 in my hands, but there was no way I was going searching in the bush with a few 20 gauge slugs. But, as was mentioned before, it was better than nothing.
I just thought I would share this, as I was thinking about this thread while walking home.
Steyr101 said:Well, in all honesty I PROBABLY would have went after it, mostly for the thrill but bear season does not open up for another 3 weeks or so in my neck of the woods.
So I did not want to tempt myself with a possible shot knowing that I could not have taken it (legally) if it presented itself.
Foxer said:Easy, popcan.no one wants to destroy a bear without cause, and i'm sure gatehouse'd be the first to tell you if he can get out of a bear encounter without harming the bear that'd be choice number one (provided he doesn't risk his own fuzzy butt to do it - your life still comes first of course).
Obviously that was all tongue-in-cheek stuff!

Speak for yourself...

Well, you are the exception, GH!
But Foxer is onto something... Maybe next spring you can take us out for a spring bear, and I'll try the 20g slugs myself, with Foxer backing me up with his pump-rifle,? ) and you backing us both up with the .338!
