Hoisted the new Beretta 800 at the outdoors show today, quite a piece, if I was younger and wanted to shoot piles I'm thinking this might have been the one .They definitely put a good amount of thought into it.:)

I drove to Canada's gun shop to check it out. Its ugly but I kinda like it. Its thick thru the reciever but my issue is the ridge on the reciever side of the forend. It just feels awkward in the hand. The forend is thin enough I doubt the ridge could be filed down
Because if that I didnt buy it. Id still like to try one though

At least these sound like real upgrade - gas system, trigger, slimmer profile, unlike the BS Benelli is trying to pull with its SBE3 AI which is marked up by an additional 1K. But the A400 is pretty bombproof already.

Aesthetics being a personal thing, this Beretta is too superfly for my tastes. Also I'm not loving the plastic receiver, but who knows.

Had the chance to handle one and wasn’t impressed with the feel. Call me old-fashioned, but I’m a metal receiver kinda guy. Don’t get me wrong, it mounted nicely and the adjustable comb is a game changer for a hunting specific semi. Especially for us guys who can’t quite get a stock that fits us out of the box without adding stock pads or improvised risers. That aside, plastic is plastic and it feels cheap. I think Beretta missed the mark on material construction here. It’s as ugly as it’s price point.

They do come up nice ill give them that. Its just the checkmark style ridge in the forend disrupts my grip. I keep my off hand close to the reciever due to a shoulder injury
With the price of the a400 extreme its not really that much more money

I handled one recently at my local store and quite liked how it felt in hand and how it shouldered. Looks didn't bother me but could not justify the $3k price tag. I have an A400.

Agreed I can't get my head around the price, it's different with plastic/polymer receiver and all but I'm not sure I'd count is at better. Remember just because you can doesn't mean you should when it comes to design and innovation.

My sentiments exactly. If it was EITHER 3K price tag with a metal receiver OR plastic receiver at a significantly less price tag, maybe...but BOTH 3K and plastic? Ugh...

What is it with the increased use of plastics in key parts of the structure. I just got a DP12 Gen 2, and wish it was a Gen 1, as the body is not a hybrid of polymer an aluminum rather than straight up metal - even then with my optic and red dot the thing is over 12lbs...and it is supposed to be lighter? I get it that companies want lighter guns, but not sure I want to trade off structural integrity for weight.

Wonder how Beretta can justify the price given the materials used...maybe it's like Leaf tickets - people will buy them regardless of what the quality of the product is (or is not)

Leafs tickets aren't selling too good these days. lol

I can see its design for its intended use. Lots of big shells for waterfowl on salt marshes and shorelines. High grade polymers aren't effected by sal####er.
I dont hunt salt water but I sure know it can be hard on metal finishes if neglected at all

Innovation always comes at a price and beretta spend alot of money in r&d for the gun. Is it over priced? Maybe but an m4 is the same price or more. And a400 extreme plus in camo is only $200 cheaper or so

A new mossberg 500 in black plastic is reaching over $700 after tax

Despite what some might think, I fully support innovation and technological advances in gunmaking. But it gets harder to differentiate the real advances from marketing hype and bull####. Companies have to come up with something ‘new,’ even if it isn’t, or makes no appreciative difference.

I’m less bothered by the use of polymers, which might be advantageous in salt water environments and cold temperatures, than the styling, which I find ugly in the extreme. It’s like the cybertruck of the gun world, except that the AX800 actually seems fit for its intended purpose.

Would I prefer a AX800 over my 1930 Superposed if hunting waterfowl in salt marshes? No, but that’s a personal preference. And as to the birds, they’d be just as dead, I don’t think Beretta’s ‘new’ technology would make a difference to them.
