New bolt action .357mag from Ruger

ooh. I am adding one of these to my collection. Perfect for those heavy 180gr hollowpoints

Now to find a rear peep...
Most of the rear peeps for the 77/44 require the front sight be replaced and I would suspect the same with the 77/357.

I have a barrel-mounted Skinner aperture sight on my 77/44 that fitted easily into the dovetail and works well with the factory front sight.

It seems like every 3-4 months Ruger pumps something out that may not be a new idea, is marketed well or strikes a chord with the shooting public.

I have no need for this offering but find myself wanting one anyway, just like the scout rifle, SR-556, and so on.

Make one in stainless/laminate and I would buy one even in a caliber only good for shooting flies!

I second this sight... picked up a stainless one for my new 77/44... keeps the rifle super-light, and should work great on deer out to 100m or so.

I wondered who would FINALLY make a bolt action in this cartridge. I'm down for one. I was considering the .44 Mag version so I'm glad I held off buying it. If this rifle could shoot .38 SPl. it would be damn near perfect in my mind.

According to Ruger it will shoot .38 Special however there is one potential issue. This was posted on their Facebook page.

The 77/357 will usually function well when loaded with .38 Special. However, the left over space in the magazine allows .38 Special cartridges room to migrate, occasionally to where the rim of the top round gets caught behind the rim of the round below, causing a “rim lock” jam. The incidence rate of this malfunction is fairly low, and varies by ammunition type. If you want to shoot .38 Special in your 77/357 you are welcome to do so, but you can’t blame your gun if it does not function perfectly! The gun was designed to shoot, and will shoot best, with 357 Magnum ammunition.

Not really important if it doesnt shot 38 sp i reload swcutter made from wheel weight 158 gr at 800 fps with 3.5 gr of HP-38 out of a 357 mag empty case they cost me maximum 10 cents a piece and they duplicate excately the 38 sp... JP

Exactly what I first thought.

Or even a 12" barrel, should be plenty long enough to get maximum potential out of pistol cartridge. Would make a really handy carbine to have on an ATV or farm truck.

if the SBR laws in the US apply to bolt action rifles then that would be the reason for them not making it that short
