I currently own a 223, 243, 2x308's, 30-06 and a 7mm rem mag. I have an itch to buy a new big game rifle, thinking something fast and flat possibly a 257 weatherby mag the big down side is the cost of ammo as I don't hand load. Something good for speed goats and wide open mulies. I'm open to other suggestion.

Ill second the 25/06, but its hard to find a wide selection of factory loaded bullet weights. As a handloader I make everything from 120 grains down to 75.

You don't reload and you have 7 RM... spend your money on ammo and some time at the range.

Your point?...

I do lots of shooting just looking for something new.
Thanks everyone else for your suggestions, I've thought about the 25-06 but I think there's almost more factory loadings for the 257weatherby. But I'll have to look into it a little more closely.

Get the "new for 2016" 30 Nosler (which Nosler is advertising as able to blow away a 300 Wby).

Then you will wish you bought the 257 Roy because the ammo is cheap in comparison :)

My point was, you commented on the expense of ammo... you already have an excellent cartridge for your stated purposes... therefore, ammo and range time will probably put you further ahead than another new cartridge which you will have to feed... I was not suggesting that you can't shoot... I don't know you... the advice (which you asked for), was derived from the data you provided, although not specifically what you requested.

I was thinking the same thing...
Some factory ammo in some lighter bullet offerings and all.
Your good2go ...
Tight Groups,
Rob

Lighter bullets are flat shooting for short to medium ranges, heavy for caliber bullets will drop less and resist wind drift at long ranges.

Guys, he wants a new rifle, in a different caliber. We are supposed to be gun enthusiasts. Lol.
