new canadian made 1911

Wasn't terse at all it was a short reply that stated no we do not check out our site for what we do do...

Me having no interest in the anemic performance of the 9mm/45acp will not spend that kind of money on a firearm that is not chambered in the cartridge I prefer...

I have been thinking that the long slide 40S&W may not be to hard to get a KKM or Barsto 10mm barrel & Wolff heavier recoil spring for.

If that is possible I may look at these again buy it in 40S&W and get the 10mm components...

I would really like to try a 10mm, you make it sound like its the ultimate cartridge.

How does it compare to .45 auto/.44mag?

6" barrel

135gr = 1825fps
200gr = 1320fps

So more than a 45acp and less than a 44mag...

The 10mm is the most powerful standard production semi-auto round available it can do everything the others can and everything they can't...

I shoot 10mm's both my Glock 20/29 have spare 40S&W barrels for cheap practice but when I want performance I have it instead of just wanting it...

I have had in the past both my Colt Delta Elite/G20 on my ATC license...

I find your comment very interesting indeed, having used a 1911a1 in .45acp for work for more than 17 years it never failed me in doing it's job.

How you arrived at determining that the .45acp is anemic is beyond my understanding. ??

You must be facing some really dangerous oponents down your way

"I wonder, is Canstar affiliated in any way with Marstar ? doubt anyone knows for sure, perhaps John can answer ? "

NO Canstar is not affiliated in any way with Marstar.

That said I do know the owners quite well, they have been customers here for years....

I have never seen a finished handgun, but I was shown slides, barrels, frames, muzzle brakes, mag wells, etc, etc, ALL showed the highest level of quality and finish, other than that I know very little of their production.

I have 10mm's for ATC I would never face down a bear with a 45acp if I go to 45 cal I jump to my 45 Colt's or my 454 Casull's...

For jumping in and out of my truck a 10mm semi-auto is the ultimate due to the power, speed to load/unload...

I'm not shooting people I shoot things that eat people... :p

I do have a Utah CCW permit which is why I purchased my G29 and depending on where I am I used to swap out the 10mm and install the 40S&W barrel and load the same ammo as the local law enforcement.

 cool! good to see there's a method to the madness as opposed to just "cuz i wanna go more bang!!!" :p hooray for function!

the enemy of my enemy is my friend

A s/s 6" long slide 1911 10mm has been a dream of mine for almost 15 years now.

Here is a pic of my Colt Delta Elite with a 6" Barsto 10mm barrel fugly as hell with that barrel sticking out thus the dream...

and a 6" long slide on my hip would just look good when I'm hiking past curious hikers when I am in remote wilderness areas...

The 10mm does indeed produce more energy than the .45 ACP and .40 S&W and is a top notch man (and man eater) stopper...well as much as any handgun can be (shot placement trumps cartridge power of course).

The reason the 10mm isn't more popular is because it recoils harder than most people can handle, and the cartridge itself puts a lot of wear and tear on the frame of the gun.

In fact, the FBI, who were most interested in the 10mm, started downloading the 10mm due to agent complaints. It got to the point were Smith and Wesson said "hey, they have downloaded the 10mm so far we could match it with a much smaller overall package."

That is how the .40 S&W was born (.40 inches = 10mm)

Each to his own taste, n'est-ce-pas?

and Can-down is much different?

:p

Touche!

Wouldn't be my choice for a company name that's for sure...:D

When I joined CGN I had just come in from an afternoon of blasting cans so it was the first thing that popped into my head!

Maybe Canstar was the first thing that popped in their head or they had just used Onstar to open their car to get the keys they locked inside...:p

Talked to someone (Gerry?) from Canstar this morning after sending an email last night. Ordered some mags and they said they would ship today. Less than 17hrs from email to tracking # is pretty fast in my book.
His demeanor was very professional. So far, so good.
I'm really curious about the quality of the mags so I ordered one of each :D

I had the chance to handle one of their 1911 today at the Longueuil Gunshow PQ. I'm not an expert in 1911 but eh! they are nice, they are tight. Gerry was nice to talk to, he said that the frame, slide and barrel are homemade...for the other part, you've already seen the part list. He says he's already a member on CGN and soon we'll hear from him, but he have to go to Shotshow first.... anyway wait&see

Homemade you say....hmmmm

What forging house does he use, would be interesting to know, also who is doing the machining of the frame and slides and the rifling of the barrels

Either this company has had this equipment sitting around for ever, or someone just won LOTTO Max.....

@Johnone - thanks for the feedback

Curious why you are so skeptical?

Curious why you are so skeptical?
It's because of the machinery required to forge frames and slides as well as the rifling in the barrels.
I have been doing service work for over 20 years in some pretty impressive plants and still haven't seen more than a few of them.
It's highly unlikely that they are forging their own frames and slides.
