Obviously there aren't a lot of fans of the tube mag lever gun here. Yes you can get a 308 or umpteen other similar cartridges for any box magazine rifle including some lever guns. But to some of us nothing, and i mean nothing handles and feels like a tube mag lever gun.
There's something else going on here too. Yes, Winchester is having a little hickup right now, but Marlin's sales have been one of the sucess stories of the new century. A lot of this is to do with the popular guide gun series but not just that. Not long ago you could get a half dozen different vanilla wood and blued lever gun models from Marlin in a handfull of calibres. Take a look at this years different models.

And they're all selling.
And yes some will say that the 30-30 is all you need to "hunt the thick stuff" or "dog" or "push" for your buddys and that's all good. But some of us step out of the swamp from time to time and the 30-30 class cartridges start to show their limitations big time shooting accross a clear cut or a field. I am very interested in the new 308 Marlin and come the day when I can reload for it with the leverution bullets I will get one.

I suspect Hornaday will want to rake in some R and D costs by selling only loaded ammo for a while tho ..
It matters not what the nay sayers nay say. Hornaday and Marlin are going to make a bucket of money out of these partnerships
