I would love to shoot one... I would not hesitate to hunt with one... and if it gets one more hunter off the couch into the gunstore then it is a winner n my mind!

Well your sure in luck!!
I hear Doug is lookin to dump a 307 for a guy :D

I seriously doubt a hunter is gonna jump off a couch just because a new cartridge is out there!

I hear ya senior... thanks but I had a .307... shot my obligatory four boxes of ammo and sold it.

What does it take to get you off the couch.... besides a Turkey dinner?:D

I would have thought that some of the Can-Opener shooters would be a little bit more excited about the direction that Hornady and Marlin are going with this stuff.

.............what new direction are they going though?? They just made a rimmed .308 Holy man what a breakthrough!!! Wow this is absolutely cutting edge. How can one be excited when their are tons of Savage 99's, Browning BLR's and a few Winchester 88's floating around. Its not like they just invented this caliber and mated it with a new revolutionary firearm that will take the industry by storm. Its a 336 for christs sake which i have two of in one of my cabinets and quite frankly it shoulders like a 2x4 compared to a Savage 99 or a BLR. With that said though, the 336 is better looking than the BLR.

Hi again, call me crazy......:dancingbanana: But wasn't there such a rifle that was chambered for ALL .308 rounds ??? Hmmmm now what was it  .

Oh I remember... It was the Winchester model 88 !!! I'm pretty sure that the 88 can still kick the crap out of this "new" Marlin / Hornady. Makes a guy think that there is no one working at Marlin / Hornady that isn't older than the age 15. That seems to be the age that the word "research" has no meaning. :D :D :D

Oh geez, and I forgot about the lovely Browning BLR as well !!!

Maybe they should call their new Marlin / Hornady the Hubcap, cause that's all it is in my opinion.:D :D :D

Arch:)

Well said Arch.

There is nothing "new" there. Perhaps they should have focused their time and energy on bringing back a 336 in .356win...? I bet that would sell. :D

Obviously there aren't a lot of fans of the tube mag lever gun here. Yes you can get a 308 or umpteen other similar cartridges for any box magazine rifle including some lever guns. But to some of us nothing, and i mean nothing handles and feels like a tube mag lever gun. :p

There's something else going on here too. Yes, Winchester is having a little hickup right now, but Marlin's sales have been one of the sucess stories of the new century. A lot of this is to do with the popular guide gun series but not just that. Not long ago you could get a half dozen different vanilla wood and blued lever gun models from Marlin in a handfull of calibres. Take a look at this years different models. And they're all selling.;)

And yes some will say that the 30-30 is all you need to "hunt the thick stuff" or "dog" or "push" for your buddys and that's all good. But some of us step out of the swamp from time to time and the 30-30 class cartridges start to show their limitations big time shooting accross a clear cut or a field. I am very interested in the new 308 Marlin and come the day when I can reload for it with the leverution bullets I will get one. :D I suspect Hornaday will want to rake in some R and D costs by selling only loaded ammo for a while tho ..

It matters not what the nay sayers nay say. Hornaday and Marlin are going to make a bucket of money out of these partnerships :dancingbanana:

I kinda see you (BIGREDD) like some of those calibers. Not very popular but having some limited usefulness.

Supercub - i WILL be writing you a nasty comment reminding you about personal attacks THE MOMENT i stop laughing. Probably sometime tomorrow.

I was not hacking on you personally Super... I should not have used your name in vain...;)

Just making a point... and having some fun at the same time.:dancingbanana:
Yes, all in fun and besides, I don't take much personally here on CGN.

Layoff the crack pipe...:runaway:

6mm Rem is one of the best!!!
I didn't say it wasn't good, I said it probably duplicated another cartridge or was just plain overlooked and therefore lacked sales.

I'd take a 6mm over a 243 or a 257Roberts over both the smaller ones any day.
:D

You fellas all wish you were me... retired but still working in the firearms industry and shooting sports part time... getting all the new guns and products to test... having the women lust after you because of your manly good looks... buying whatever firearm that turns your crank just because you can... being able to hunt or shoot every day right out your back door.:p

Well most of it is true.... I can't really buy every firearm I want....;)

Well said Salty... You must have been in Marketing... This is the truth of the industry today. And yeah I do like to see all the new product regardless of whether it is a need or a want of my own.
This means we have choices boys and in a limited market place like the firearms industry choices can slip away from us fast.
