New Cooper rifle arrived.... scope suggestions?

Got my first Cooper rifle... .308 Excalibur M54
Just arrived yesterday!
Surprised at how light it is! Going to be a very handy hunting rifle!

Now I need to pick my scope. I like the Leupold 2.5x8 on my 7-08 deer/moose gun.... but was thinking of a leupold CDS dial on a bigger scope for longer range on the Cooper. Say, max 300 yds for hunting, further for paper.
Any users of the CDS system want to chime in? Is it worth it for hunting purposes?

Or, what else do you suggest for a lightweight .308 hunting rifle?

Leupold is over priced. Nikon is the best bang for your buck.... hahaha get it, bang for your buck.... you probably don't get it..... oh well i'll just help my self out the door.

That is exactly what I have waiting for my Cooper Model 56 in 7mmstw, but it is a little large for a compact ,lightweight rifle.

Mine is mounted on a varminter so weight wasn't an issue. If I would be scoping a mountain rifle, I'd go with something lighter.

I have a stainless Jackson Hunter in 7mm-08 on order. I already have a silver Leupold 3.5-10 40mm I'm going to put on it. I'd be really interested in how yours shoots once you get it scoped popcan?

My new Model 54 Jackson Game in 257 Roberts is wearing an old favorite, an older Burris Mini-6X with an AO. It's light, compact, has great eye relief and the smaller objective keeps it closer to the bore and does not take away from the "light" feel of the rifle, as a heavier, larger objective scope might do.My future Model 56 in 8 mag will use 6X also, either a Leupold 6x42 or possibly a Swaro or Kahles, maybe an S&B, the Euro scopes are heavier, which is not a negative thing on a magnum rifle.

The Swarovski Z-3 line is comparable in weight to the Leupold VX-3 line.

Correct. The Z3 3-10x42 is actually .1 oz lighter than the VX3 3.5-10x40.
I'm putting a Z5 5-25x52 on my Excalibur in 280AI, a pretty big scope but still light at 17.5 oz. for the size.

That said, the Excalibur itself is certainly no lightweight.

I don't know if you live near a good hunting store, but check out their rifle scopes and compare the clarity, brightness and sharpness.............Zeiss wins hands down to me, even over swarvoski. But you must go and compare. If shooting at long range at game or on paper I would choose Zeiss.......you must see what your shooting at. Get the scope with the 50mm objective.......a little more light transmission and wider field of view.

Leupold FX-II 4x33mm. Weight is 9.3oz. Perfect for any LW rifle. I have a new one here that will go into use this summer. I like them.

VXII in 2x7 is another very good choise for a LW. I have three of those.

? How light is "lightweight" to you? The Excalibur is as light as my Sako A-7, which is just over 6 lbs scoped....

A $149 Bushnell Banner on a $2300 Cooper. I don't think so.

If this is to be a rifle that does 2 duties, it needs to comply for both. The hunting duty is, set it and forget it. But when you talk long range target, it has to have turrets that can be adjusted at ease.
Oh by the way nice new toy!!

I like my Conquests, but I prefer my Swarovski Z5 optically.

Get the scope with the 50mm objective.......a little more light transmission and wider field of view.

With some Zeiss scopes, the field of view is greater with the larger lens, with other models, it stays the same, the 3.5-10x44, and the 3.5-10x50 being an example.
