817 Yard Yote

My long distance record to date, 817 yards. Was a beautiful calm sunny day, and luckily he was very close to 2 huge rocks otherwise I wouldn't have be able to get a reading on my Lieka 1200 rangefinder. Tikka 3, 7mm Rem Mag, with 162 Gr. Amax, 17.1 MOA , after the shot I found him in the scope spinning around so I knew I nailed him. Sure got my excersise hiking uphill in over a foot of snow.

That was a great shot, the best one I have seen was about 768 yards(ranged after the shot) the dog was on a dead run, right to left on a side hill. One shot down he went some luck and skill were certainly involved.

Just use only one rifle for all my hunting these days, keeps it simple. The H&H shoots as flat as a .30-06, and gives me huge choices in bullet weights, 200 to 350gr. Nice knowing no matter what I hunt, only need to reach for one gun. It's even easy on hides, just punches cleanly in and out with no fragmentation. Needless to say, drops anything like a sledge hammer, this guy took a 300gr Hornady. Recoil's not even that bad, you get used to it and it just becomes the norm, much more than a .300 Win Mag or something but light compared to the big boys.

Thanks Tim, this was a BIG dog, not .375 H&H big but it couldn't have hurt... :p

First one for the M96. Another far shot, second furthest actually. 30 yds:D

How the the 6.5x55 do in terms of pelt damage? I'm really interested!

129 grain spire point. Pelt damage was not too bad actually, about a loonie size hole on the exit side. Far less damage than my .223 and 50 grain V-Max's.
I was using a pretty conservative load though, 37 grains of RL22 for approx. 2350 fps.

Don't always have the Camera along but...

...here's some from last fall.

Buddy Helgie smashed this one at like 28 meters with his .264

ChokeCherry upload. Got him at ~40 yds with my Grizzly, and #4 Buckshot.
