Just got her back today from Herron Arms. Ian did a fantastic job on the new barrel. .223 wylde stainless. Thanks Ian!

While the rifle was away I got my Magpul PTS Masada Rifle Length Handguard. Still need to make a heat shield for it. Handguard fits like a glove, no modifications required. There is a opening at the top, you can see the spring from the piston through it. Doesn't bother me, and its WAY lighter than the aluminum handguard. Overall rifle is very well balanced now.

Also waiting for optics. I have an extra Vortex PST 1-4x and 6-24x but I think I want a 4-16x for this setup. Any input on a good scope for hunting Coyotes?

ACR came with Geissele Super ACR Trigger. It's the first Geissele I've ever used, and now I see why lots of people crave about them. Much better trigger then any other rifles I own.

I might want a bipod. I was planning on using whatever I find out there for a rest, but a few hunters recommended a good bipod.

I'll be taking it out soon so I'll post some reports. I have 12 lbs of Binary targets waiting to pop, needed a Non restricted rifle to detonate it. Stupid club wont allow Binary Target use on club property.

Beautiful rifle. That will serve you well hunting Wiley coyote. I love my XCR for the job, but I really would like to give an ACR a try. They are just sweet.

Nice NR rifle!!! Question fir ya, what are you making the heat sheild out of?

Two carbine length AR 15 handguard heat shields fit REALLY well into this handguard. I'll post a pic in 5 min

Second option is a friend who is a fabricator. He can shape some aluminum sheeting for me. But that would require 12 to 24 beers to get him working.

Man that is beautiful and functional, now I'm really in a bind...... So buy the nighthawk custom I've been drooling over for a month and finally going to pull the trigger on? or the fde acr on the wall behind it and send it to Ian. Damn you!

Im in a bind too I want an ACR and I also want a nice precision semi auto like the FNAR as well, but I only have enough cash for one! so dunno what to do.

Acr does not come in FDE, it is a Coyote Brown

A onverted ACR from Herron arms can be quite accurate. The FNAR is nice but hard to find the regular model in NR here. IRG only has the competition which is quite a bit heavier or the 16" restricted.

I plan to hand load some 69 and 75 grain match ammo for this baby. The limiting factor will undoubtably be my skill. Load information and pictures will be posted... One day. I'm moving at the end of the month and won't have time for much until after New Years.

It's a little apples to oranges what with the ACR being .223 and the FNAR at .308. So really one of each is the answer.

So Mike the answer to your difficult choice will most likely be decided by calibre choice, saying that the ACR (turned NR via Herron Arms) will be about $1,000 more give or take.

I do expect to find a FNAR (20" heavy) in my safe one day, even though I very much dislike the complicated take down that comes with that particular rifle. (Well unless the AR goes NR then that's all I'll ever need, that being a quality AR-10.)

With the ACR weighing in a little less (probably about .5Kg. over the FNAR 20" Heavy) and with the versatility of it's rear stock coupled with the .223 calibre it would seem the obvious choice for coyotes and hiking about the woods. However if larger game is your thing then the .308 round is a no brainer compared to .223.

Like I said earlier you really need one of each.;)

Love my NR ACR. Best purchase Ive made. Threw a 4x32 BDC ACOG on mine and for some reason I get my best groups with Norc ammo. Haven't found anything that'll shoot tighter. I've never found a need for a heat shield tho and I also have the PTS handguard
