New Coyote Gun (Non Restricted ACR)

I've never found a need for a heat shield tho and I also have the PTS handguard

It feels like the same material Magpul uses for everything else, but I saw on the ACR forums people say a heat shield should be used if you plan to shoot a few 100 rounds at the range. Hunting, probably not required.

It's a little apples to oranges what with the ACR being .223 and the FNAR at .308. So really one of each is the answer.

So Mike the answer to your difficult choice will most likely be decided by calibre choice, saying that the ACR (turned NR via Herron Arms) will be about $1,000 more give or take.

I do expect to find a FNAR (20" heavy) in my safe one day, even though I very much dislike the complicated take down that comes with that particular rifle. (Well unless the AR goes NR then that's all I'll ever need, that being a quality AR-10.)

With the ACR weighing in a little less (probably about .5Kg. over the FNAR 20" Heavy) and with the versatility of it's rear stock coupled with the .223 calibre it would seem the obvious choice for coyotes and hiking about the woods. However if larger game is your thing then the .308 round is a no brainer compared to .223.

Like I said earlier you really need one of each.;)
it all depends on what you want to do, for me it was hunting so the ACR got converted to 450, I had no use for another NR 223. 308 is a totally different platform of a rifle to start with so they can not really be compared IMO

Sigh, I know...
Been eyeing an ACR for over a year now. I would put my nice browe 4x on it. Maybe the FN will have to wait another year... Its such a sweet rig though, but yes breakdown is a real b!tch.

Obviously if the ar was made non restricted Id jump on a sr25 and Id forget about both the fnar and the acr (since I already have a colt) but honestly gang the chances of that ever happening are pretty damn slim, about the same chances as zombies taking over north america...

We can dream can't we? I keep hoping for zombies, the AR going non restricted would be nice as well ;)

Enhanced ACR w PWS 556 brake and Giessele super ACR trigger, magpul sites in box $2000 EE
Green Mountain SS 1/7 threaded barrel, installed. $1010 (includes shipping both ways and tax)
Magpul PTS Masada Rifle Length Handguard $54.42 shipped from eHobby Asia
Yankee hill comp, $20 shipped new off EE

$3084.00 Included all taxes and shipping. Plus optics, Vortex 4-16x44 on Vortex Cant mount in the mail

It is, but it could have been worse. I kept my eyes open for a deal on the EE. if i paid retail for the gun, $2,779.00 plus $260 for the Geissele trigger, adding shipping and taxes id be at $3480 before the barrel work. If i wait for the DMR model I might die of old age. And even then won't have a barrel as good as the one Ian made me.

I'm happy with the build/budget. Now I want to make a 10.5" tan version with PDW stock (search Acr forum).

Some days I wish I'd kept the 12 inch barrel mine came with and bought a second ACR for it to leave restricted. It looked so good with the short barrel.
I sold it to offset the costs of the NR conversion.
