Leupold VX2 4-12x40 AO. Plenty of magnification up top and 4x low end when their in tight! As for reticles, I have a few scopes with stadia lines in them and find I dont use them as much as I thought I would. I find I like a crosshair/dot reticle for coyotes especially when they're running, gives your eye a fast reference when you're rushed.

I really like the Leupold LR duplex. Just a couple small dots below the cross hairs. I find many of the new reticles like the B&C or the Rapid-Z are just too "busy" when I look though them.

Put a 4x scope on it as it will be all you need for as far as a .223 is good on a coyote. And get a good quality binocular to watch your coyotes run away with your bullets in them !
Then do what I did and trade your Tikka .223 in on a Tikka 22-250 and then bang flop em. At this point your gun will be ready for the scope that the other fellas are talking about. The last 2 bush mutts I shot here were 55 lb and 50 lb. Maybe they are smaller in B.C. lol !

Cheers

There is nothing a 22-250 can do that a properly built/loaded 223 can't do with the exception of getting there a little faster and flatter. An 8 twist 223 loaded with bullets like 75/80gr berger or amax will roll big ol' SK coyotes well past 600 yards in the hands of a capable shooter.

A quality 3-9x should be fine for most any yote hunting. Chances are you will be wishing for field of view rather than high magnification in most situations. Other options might be a 4-12x or at the high end, 4-14x.

The Zeiss Rapid Z is a good looking reticle. I've been thinking of it myself, and I do like the Zeiss glass.

Oh, and the .223 is plenty adequate, btw. Never mind the naysayers. If your T3 is 1 in 8 twist (as mine is), and you reload, you can always try some heavier bullets than the standard factory fare.

You won't go wrong with Zeiss, I find those Rapid Z's to busy inside, I have a few Zeiss's and they work well.

I have a Conquest 3-9x40 with RapidZ reticle, which I sent to the factory to have target turrets installed. This scope would be pretty much ideal for your rifle.

The .223 will do anything that the .22-250 will do at 100 yards farther out. Using the right bullet and putting it in the right place is what will determine how fast your coyotes drop, not what cartridge you shoot them with.

"Well past 600 yards" Oh my god is that a typo ? or was I not puttin all the powder in the case's ?

The next coyote you get a bullet in at "well past 600 yards" with a .223 in SK. drop by my place in Ontario for a rest on your way by when your chasing it !

I am fairly handy with a rifle but any .223 I had wouldn't Roll a chipmunk at "Well past 600 yards"

To me a .223 is a 300 yrd gun on bush mutts. Just me.

I'm off to other forums to see if I can buy a set of more capable hands. I just washed mine and can't do a thing with em.......... apparently ! ha ha keep smiling !

I have had good luck with my Bushnell 3200 4x12 AO pretty good for the money I'd say and I like the rain guard. 4200 and 6500 are probably even better. But the Zeiss very nice indeed.

Ive just have had very good results with the rain guard for fogging ect. very wet here in Ont. a lot of the time when hunting.

Seriously enjoy your new rig ! Tikka's rule with me. T3 lite S.S.

Have fun and be safe everybody !

Regards

I have a t3 lite SS in 243 with a 4x12 bushnell elite 3200 AO and it is my yote/wolf gun. this scope works just fine on it. spend more if you can or want to but you really don't have too either.

Enjoy your new yote rig!

Zeiss are nice. But my personal favorite is the Bushnell 6500 2.5-16 with mil-dot. A bit on the heavier side but not by much. As far as quality of glass goes i can't tell the difference between it and my friends Zeiss, even in low light conditions. The 4200's are nice too and cheaper.

What did that cost if you don't mind my asking? Do you know if they'll change the reticle at the same time? I had heard they won't change reticles at Zeiss.

I have a Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14x44 with plain xhair on my 7mag that I'd love to have changed up to Rapid Z, and target turrets would be nice to have done at the same time.

Best advice right there!...
Mine doesn't have the dot but I always thought that would be a great edtion to the VXII 4X12X40..
The stadia lines for called coyote would add confusion for me in the heat of battle esp. when you have doubles..

Calling rifle or sniping rifle?

I have a 2-7 on my 17 Rem calling rifle and a 4.5-14 on my HB 220 Swift.

Don't think a guy could go wrong with a 3-9.

They charge $50 per turret (so $100 for both), plus $15 shipping.

Here is an email I received from Zeiss regarding changing reticules:

"Dear Mr Smith

Thank you for your inquiry.
The choices are the 4 , 20( $ 75 plus $ 15 shipping ) and 43 reticle ( $90 plus $15 for shipping )

They told me that they can't retrofit the RZ reticules. If you want a RZ reticule, you've got to buy a scope that comes with one.

The truth is that the RZ reticule is nice if you're just wanting to leave the scope alone and shoot at long-range, but a standard plex reticule with turrets is all you'll ever need for long-range shooting.

I hope this is somewhat helpful.

BTW, DON'T try and send a scope directly to Zeiss from Canada. They will reject the package, and you'll be out the cost of shipping. They have a Canadian dealer that they use for all Canadian work orders. The information is on Zeiss' website. The Canadian dealer is in Ontario, and is called Gentec.

It is a 8" twist. I've been hunting coyotes around here for the last 5 year's and any dog that I droped has been well within 300 to 350 range and they've all been droped with a 223.

I just put a Bushnell 4200 4-16x40 on one of my 243s. I am very happy, 4x is low enough for calling (mostly) and 16 is good for range. It is very clear & at $400 new I think it was a steal. I shoot my coyote gun more than any other sporting rifle except 22s, so this was a good investment.

i have the exact scope on a 300wm and am very impressed with it. elevation and windage track excellent. would definitely, definitely buy another.
