Guess your clients will only have to be able to run faster than you to be safe, eh? ;) :D

Sorry, couldn't resist... :p

thats the good thing about being the gun guy, they still have to have a medic too.... so if I shoot them I don;t have to treat them ;)

"Kevin B" has just stated that he carries a gun for defensive reasons. That is an illegal act.

Because right now hes in Kabul.....UMMM Thats not Canada...

Yes, but even IF you are soldiers, Canadians forces don't buy their own sidearms. Certainly not 1911's, they aren't NATO standard.

M1911 is Nato standard for the US they are still in armouries, thus still used, Because the 45ACP got more wallop then the 9mm, they are finding that the 9mm has no stopping power.

further to all the above (and watch the personal attacks guys, last warning), a cop could carry a 1911 off shift. As the criminal code does not specify what gun they carry off shift. And really it's not even in theory as it's already been tested by a couple different cases in a couple different provinces. As well to make it policy acceptable a person could also get a special recomendation from their chief allowing them to carry a 1911 or whatever.
It's better for people to think you a fool, then to open your mouth and prove it.

I still think putting "Special Forces" in big letters on the side of any pistol is incredibly TACKY. I'm sure there are plenty of people out there that find that kind of stuff really nifty though. Same people that buy Franklin Mint garbage you see advertised in the back of magazines.

AFAIK your not allowed to carry off duty in Canada.

This thread was almost getting good.
I think most of us realize that this brand of pistol in question is of the higher end of 1911's. Your not paying for the metal, your paying for the fit, finish, parts, hand fitting, as well as the name. This is not a mass production, mass produced brand. While the parts are made as fast as possible, each pistol is put together and fitted by hand.

Then you don't KNOW what you're talking about! The Criminal Code of Canada (CCC) does allow it. It may not be a department's policy to allow off duty carry.........but policy and criminal law are not the same thing.

Geez, aren't they all 'hand made' to a certain extent? I'd like to think that if an Ed Brown cost three times a much as the Para SSP it would be a lot more reliable & even more accurate but I doubt it. Practically speaking, of course...

Has there been reliability comparisions made in a test environment to verify this? And has there been accuracy comparisions made under the same circumstances? I'd like to see how the two would stack up against eachother when shot from a fixed rest, under identical conditions, for example.

Your comparing a Chrysler to a Rolls Royce

as an aside....

in US military trails way back when they found the looser built guns functioned a whole lot better then really tight guns...... tight guns leave no room for sand, dirt or other crap to move around so it affected reliability.

Couldn't you have picked a better car analogy... ;) :D

Still didn't answer my questions though... have the two been compared for reliability +/or accuracy under test circumstances or are you saying/presuming the Ed Brown is just more reliable +/or accurate than the Para because it cost's three times as much?? :)

I have never seen a comparison between those 2 companies but I don't think anyone would. Ed brown would compare more to the les baer/wilson combat 1911's. Para's are more an entry level 1911 like a S&W. The reason I like the Ed brown so much is because my brother who lives in Florida has a cobra carry & it is amazing. Doesn't have the 1.5" guarantee like the baer but plenty accurate for personal self defence & last time I talked to him it had almost 9000 rounds through it without even ONE failure....I think that is absolutely amazing. Check out www.edbrown.com

Hey what about my Norinco!!!

Sides whatever you say...a .45 might be superior..but if its carried in a concealed rig all day long..its just to heavy, not to mention the whole condition 1 thing.

If I was like that dude in Kabul, I would quite happily open carry a nice tuned 1911 provided it was loaded with ball ammo.

then again I wouldnt go to Kabul..as it sucks there...we should start a small collection and send this guy KB some rounds to try out on the unfriendlies and post all pertinent ballistic data..

hmmm maybe to extreme?
