New Ed Brown Special Forces

Then you don't KNOW what you're talking about! The Criminal Code of Canada (CCC) does allow it. It may not be a department's policy to allow off duty carry.........but policy and criminal law are not the same thing.

AFAIK...as you can read, I was not sure on it or not. Can you post what section this says in the CC.

Isn't off duty cop just a regular civilian? Why would different rules apply to them? and than what about securicor and brinks guys (I'm pretty sure they can't carry off duty)...

From what I remember here in Toronto. Several years ago they had caught some gangbangers (forget which ethnic group -tamils/vietnamese etc) videotaping cars entering and leaving one or more police stations. I think there might even have been graffiti specifically targeting a police officer. In this instance the Chief "had" to give special permission for some of his guys to carry off duty.

anyone remember the details?

according to the CC (and no I don't know what section), and as has already been proved in court, a police officer is never off duty, neither is a Federal Prison Guard, and as such they are allowed to carry by LAW. Now departmental policy is a whole other thing, you won't see very many Corrections Officers carrying off duty, as they could face severe punishment through their employers, however I know for a fact that some do, and have been caught, and have won when fighting the policy. And they weren't carrying issue .38's either. And no I will not name them as that would put undo attention on them, and no they haven't all been in BC either. I know of departments that won't let their officers take their works guns home, or to the range on their own time. I know other departments that supply ammo to officers to practice with, on their own time. It's all policy. It's as simple as that. Once you are sworn in as a peace officer, you are one 24hrs a day, 365 days a year (366 in Leap years :)). And I have zero problem with that. They are doing the job, and have my respect for doing so, they are possibly more at risk than me, and even when not working could be called to help me or someone else. Damn right I'd want them to be armed if possible.

Hey RL1 don't take it so hard. I think the symbol slut got most of us off-track somewhere around post #15 and it sort of escalated from there. Sure the Ed Brown is nice. I like Wilson's myself. However a thread like this opens up all kinds of comparisons to high-end 1911s. Hell I even built one up from an older issue Colt that was beat to crap. By the time I finished the only original part left was the frame. It looked great and shot great, not a Brown, Baer, or Wilson and I wished the hell I'd never sold it but I couldn't turn down the price I was offered. That's the biggest problem with this hobby. You build something as good as your skills allow. End up selling it, wishing you hadn't and have to move on with another project. There's a lot of guys here that know what I'm talking about. Sure all those high end pieces are beautiful, I wish I could afford them all, but nothing in this world can beat a quality piece of work you've built yourself.:)
