New Encore Pro-Hunter questions

Just bought a new TC Encore Pro-Hunter in .223 Rem to play with. I'm a bolt action guy but figured I can buy a different barrel instead of a new rifle when I get the hitch to try different cartridges. That's how I justified to myself anyway:D. I had never even handled one before I got this one so I have a couple questions.

Is the extractor supposed to have upward pressure on the cartridge? The cartridge doesn't slide in the chamber on its own, it has to be pushed in as the extractor is pressing slightly on the cartridge.

All the Encore I have seen in pictures have the overtravel screw at the back to the trigger guard. Mine doesn't have one and is not drilled for one. Is that a new thing?

Thanks, I'm sure I'll have more questions as I start to play with it.

That is how the extractor works on mine also.

The over travel screw was on older models. It is a new thing.

Good to know, thanks.

All I have to do now is get a mount and rings. I think I'll go with the EGW mount.

I had the same thoughts about the TC when I bough mine in 223 I bought a extra 243 win barell after doing the math on all the barrel options and mounts and bases and accuracy expectations I was on pare with two bolt rifles give or take a few hundred dollars but its a nice outfit if it fit me better in the lenght of pull department I would still have it 14.5 is way to long for me I would go with the leupold QR bases on all the barrels and have a nice scope with a set of QR rings so it is as interchangable as the barrel system and holds great settings with minor adjustments but I sold it for a bolt gun or two

Probably no issue with your little .223 but with my short barreled 45-70 Encore I found that most/all weaver rings don't fit my EGW well and would rip thru the aluminum base no matter what. Every thing is over sized for picatinny rings. I phoned EGW about it and they said to get their rings too for a proper fit - ??? I guess the only rings that may (???) hold well enough would be Burris Zee or real tactical rings. I've had to lose the scope for now and use a peep until I get them or another proper steel base - Warne I'm thinking. Just my experience however.
Burris exreme might fit on a EGW base ok but not sure yet - w ww.opticsplanet.net/burris-xtreme-tactical-rings-bases.html

I put the EGW base on my Encore 50cal muzzleloader barrel using Zee rings with a light 2.5x scope - since it recoils far less. The rings are now staying put.

Thanks for the heads up. I may reconsider the EGW, especially when I almost ordered one today for $29.99 plus $35.00 shipping!

check out talley one piece base and rings for the encore. have them on a couple of my barrels and they work great. you can get them stainless, matte black or camo.

Very interested in anything TC right now, looking for a ML but like the idea of switching barrels to play with calibres as well.

Any comments neg or pos on anything TC considered with interested.

I use Talley LW on all my bolt rifles. Do you have a picture with the Talley installed on an Encore. I'm curious about the overhang.

I'm looking at the MGM Custom right now after exchanging a few pm with Camp Cook.

also have one on a .300 Win in black matte, but that barrel is at my parents. could get a pic tomorrow if you want to see that one. i also have one in stainless on order for my 22-250 barrel that i'm changing mounts and scope in the spring after i slow down with the yote hunting and have time to re-sight it in.

Thanks. Not bad at all. Another option to consider. Where did you get them from?

my first one in matte black on my .300 Win, was from dante in montreal. i picked that one up when i bought a elite 4200 on sale. cost was around 100$ if i remember right. the rest have come from the U.S. at a little over half the price 60-65$ ish.

the EGW mounts Are nice... i never had a set of rings not work on it. and i have had well over 10 sets of EGW mounts on my guns.

They do look nice but the $35 dollar shipping charge for a $30 mount kind of turned me off. Right now I'm thinking MGM mount with QD rings to use the same scope on a few different barrels.

Not so. I inherited starpuss's buggered up EGW base along with his 45-70 barrel.

The rings had ripped off and thru the base. Like I said before, my careful assessment, measurements and discussion with the owner/operator of EGW confirmed this - weaver rings are not an ideal fit. If recoil is heavy the rings don't get enough purchase on the EGW base. Also maybe starpuss's use of four rings per scope is telling.

here's the black one on my .300 Win mag barrel. i personally don't like the look of starpuss' ring base combo. and i just don't think it would give me enough forword or backward movement of the scope for eye relief. i'm not trying to talk you into getting or not getting a certain kind of base and rings, just showing some more options.
