Why do you need chrome lined barrels to fire corrosive ammo?

You don't *need* it but chrome lined makes it much more resistant to corrosion and that much more forgiving against slack cleaning / maintenance schedules. For the ordinary range shooter with a little bit of cleaning discipline corrosive ammo is a non-issue.

Valmet is out of the firearms business for good, they're now into wood and paper products. Sako is now owned by Beretta and the tooling for RK series rifles has long been shut down. The Finnish military doesn't have the funds to start up production and they bought thousands of Norincos and East German AKs, more than they'll ever need. Its been 15 years since the last RK95 was made and they only made 20k of them.
