New Gevarm E1's.....

So who has received theirs already? Mine showed up today. Quite a strange gun, but really quite neat. I look forward to getting it apart.

How was the bore on your Gevarm. I received mine today and the bore is rather pitted :( . I am a little disappointed to say the least as it was advertised as new in box (old stock). It looks like it was simply stored improperly.

They were sold as New old stock.... no mention of rust issues!
Was it from Tradex?

Any more feedback on these?

Mine is on its way- surprised it wasn't here already.

I'm looking forward to it... but am now somewhat apprehensive. Still, everything I read about Tradex is favourable, so I'm sure it will be fine.

...but worry anyway....

I got two of them that are in the mail.
Hopefully with out any rust issues, otherwise ill have some decisions to make

are they all the silver finish? tradex and Wemajacks?
id love to see some picts of them as delivered

Thanks to nntw's manuals, I have removed the bolt and spring... I have difficulty believing that this rifle is 30 years old!

These rifles don't even appear to have been test fired. There isn't a sctratch or sign of wear of any sort on any of the internal surfaces. Looks like it was machined last week.

Surface rust is NORMAL after having sat 30-40 years in some warehouse in France.

I don't know HOW Tradex found these rifles, but if they ever find any more, I will pony up for a dozen. To find a NIB Gevarm in 2011 is unthinkable... and for $329 to boot, but it happened!

You guys are going to flip when you get them. lol

Pics of my E2!

So, my mom (!) is babysitting my sick son at my place. Call to check on him, and she says, "By the way, did you buy another gun?"

Woo-hoo, my E2 had arrived.

Packaged nicely...

And here's what was inside!

I've only been able to take it out of the box... but it looks okay so far. Quite excited to get it apart and have a closer look. It has a substantial, quality feel to it- quite different from my Marlin 795!

It might have been good idea to put some grease in the barrel when they were stored.
Mine arrived today and when I looked down the barrel it looked like there was dirt from firing in the grooves but like Griff I don't think it's been fired.
I ran a brush through it and the lands look nice, bright and clean but the grooves are rough and dark.
Griff, are your grooves clean and shinny?
Otherwise it looks great and as long as it shoots great I'm not to concerned about the condition of the grooves in the bore...
I really like the front sight and I'm hoping I can get a peep mounted low on the dovetail that will work with the front sight.
I've got the barrel soaking right now with some wipe out.....

Edit. I Scrubbed it out some more and it's looking better but I was wrong above the pitting, it is on the lands.
I'm going to shoot mine and see how it goes.....
I removed the bolt and things looked pretty good inside. Very dry metal not a lot of lubricant or perservative on these guns.

Pretty interesting gun.

The bore on my Gevarm is terrible - with heavy pitting especially evident on the first 4" on the muzzle end of the barrel. As sad as it makes me I am returning mine to Tradex. Not surprising they have been fantastic about it - but alas - my dream of a $329.00 mint Gevarm has slipped through my fingers.

I had a chance to shoot the Gevarm today.

The 20 round mag is fun to load(not)......I'm glad I de-tuned the sharp serrated edges at the top of the mag before going to the range! Not exactly what I'd call a quality mag.
I also had a 15 round and 8 round mag with me from Western Gun Parts.

I was shooting bulk Federal and CCI Mini Mags.

The 2 aftermarket mags seemed to work on par with the 20 rounder.
Had failures to eject (stovepipes) with all the mags every 5 shots or so but it seemed to work better if I was rapid firing for some reason?
When the shells did eject, they basically just sort of dribbled out of the action and a few of the failures actually found their way back under the bolt and required a bit of wiggling and jiggling to get out from under the bolt.

With the rear sight on it's lowest level I was hitting high by about 2 feet at 50 yards.....doesn't look good for using a peep with the front sight. Or any rear sight for that matter.
I decided to remove the ladder from the rear sight and let it sit down on the barrel when I lifted the sight to slide the ladder out the sight broke off! I'm so used to just sliding the ladders out with this style of sight, but on this design I should have removed the screw that holds down the spring steel rear sight! Lesson learned... Oh well the rear sight was useless anyways and with it gone I was freed to discover that in order to use the front sight at 50 yards I needed to squish my face uncomfortably against the stock, in order to get right down on top of the receiver, and sight it like a bead shotgun off the top of the receiver....Finally hitting close to point of aim but obnoxiously uncomfortable!
Next outing I will try it with a scope or red dot because I think there may be some accuracy potential here but it was hard to tell with the stock sights...
I'm also going to try and polish the chamber and see if that helps with ejection.

Can anyone else with a Gevarm tell me how theirs ejects? Strong or weak?

Cheers CD

You should know...the Gevarms have an adjustment for light or heavy ammo. (this is from memory- I'm pretty sure the E series has this feature too)

You remove the bolt and there is a guide for the spring. Put it one way, it makes the bolt heavier, put it the other way, it makes the bolt lighter. I'm guessing you have it set for strong ammo and you're shooting light.

They have no parts, no extractor, no ejector...very simple.

Yes, the 20 rd mags suck...always did. I've never seen one work perfectly. The 8 rounders are much better.

How did the new WGC mags work?

I noticed that part when I stripped it down. I didn't know you could install it differently....I put it back in so it acted as a spring guide and if it went in the other way it would compress the spring more so I'm pretty sure it's in the weaker position now. I will check this again though....
Federal bulk and CCI mini mags are not weak.
The WGP mags seemed to feed fine and the way the follower sits up a bit higher it actually blocks the last shot from slamming home empty.
Cantom how far does a Gevarm typically throw the empties? Mine were just clearing the action by an inch or two .....

Oh no, the empties definitely flew further than that. I really think you need to flip that bolt guide thing around.

What ammo are you using?

See below, tube around spring. Put it at the rear, not inside bolt, it still does it's thing but bolt becomes lighter.

CCI MiniMags
and
Federal Bulk

It's hard to see in that diagram but the part I'm refering to had one end that was bigger and cone shaped, I put this to the rear. Then going away from the larger cone shaped end the piece is thinner and this went inside the spring like a guide rod....
