New Glock 48 owners; how long have you had it? Round count? Any revelations?

My round count keeps climbing....not quite the end of the first month of ownership, 3400 rounds through the gun, one FTE a reload round. Otherwise they gun has been flawless. I’m a big fan of WML’s and was considering a rail adaptor to let me mount an Olight Valkyrie mini 2 on it. Talked to several American friends with 48’s, a couple have gone with the adaptor and suggested a different route since it marks up the frame badly. The TLR6 light/laser was recommended by several, and it attaches to the trigger guard. Really don’t like the battery choice on it, but otherwise it’s a decent enough light. Only 100 lumen output, but enough to light up your target at any realistic range. I like the laser mode than expected. I’d prefer a green laser, but being more expensive and needing more room and bigger power supply it’s not likely going to fit without extending past the muzzle, which I think looks stupid.

This one is quite bright; bright enough to see in some situations outdoors in daylight. You’re able to have laser only, light only, or both, which is sensible. I’ve zeroed it to POA at 7yds, and if the mechanics of your grip are solid, it’s very effective snap shooting without using the sights. I spent a couple hours at the range drawing & snap shooting, and was pleased by the end of the session, I was able to double tap the head or centre mass & keep the rounds within a couple inches of each other.

After this many rounds, the gun feels as familiar as my gen 1 G17....quite a feat, since there are north of 35,000 rds through that pistol & 20 years of shooting it. The 48’s grip angle is similar to my first center fire semi auto pistol, a S&W model 39 I bought back in the 70’s. It sits and functions very naturally for me; the grip angle was what kept me from going to a 1911 for IPSC, which was the preferred handgun for that back in the day. The 1911 was too vertical for me, and I could never get used to pulling the muzzle down into alignment for each shot. The Smith, and now the 48, point much more naturally for me. That of course makes snap shooting more intuitive and much faster.

I was a bit sceptical about the manner it secures to the trigger guard, but it was unwarranted. The light is rock solid when mounted, the battery door is snug and won’t open accidentally. It’s very light ( a bit more than an ounce) and doesn’t extend past the muzzle.
Now...to find a holster that’ll work.

I am at about 400 rounds through mine. Zero stoppages thus far, I run CCI Blazer for practice ammo. I have a G17 Gen 5 as well, and the G48 fits my hand much better. In fact, I shoot noticeably better with the G48, probably because I can get a better grip on it. You might see a G17 from me on the EE pretty soon... Anyways, I'll admit that the narrow grip isn't for everybody, I must have smaller than normal hands.

It's got a bit more recoil than a G17, but not so much that it's effected my shooting. In fact, I think that my better grip mitigates the recoil and I can make follow up shots quicker despite the recoil.

My only real complaint about the pistol itself was that I really liked the G17 Gen 5's ambi slide release for the admittedly rare occasion of off-hand shooting, but it's not a deal-killer.

My biggest issues thus far are related to availability of accessories:

1. I need to get a holster. I haven't seen any in Canada for the G48 and I may need to go order something from the US.
2. I find that the G17 mag pouches are too big. The G48 mags sit in too deep, but at least they're narrower so while they are loose and you can get your fingers in there to pry them out.

Lastly, I wrote an email to Deadpoint Lights, they make Glock guide rod flashlights. I asked them if they have a model that would fit in the G48, or if one is in the works. (I won't put a lasermax guide rod laser in, I read that they're terrible for holding a zero). But for a flashlight, zero isn't an issue. Anyways, if I hear back from Deadpoint, I'll post here and let y'all know.

I’ve never seen a guide rod flashlight, but I cant imagine them being very effective. I know you can push a lot of lumens from some of those small Cree light engines, but at what cost? hearing aid “button” batteries tend to be pretty expensive for what you get; one of the biggest gripes I have with the TLR 6. Non standard batteries can be almost impossible to find, and button batteries can be a PITA to carry around “just in case”. A guide rod sized light would have to use something very small; I don’t think I’d want to be worrying about the light failing 10 minutes after it was activated. Just personal opinion, but it’s not a solution I’d be looking at very seriously

Received my 48 last week - coated the slide black - looks awesome - the thing is small!
my hands are fairly large so it fits very small on me - seems the wife is ok with it :O

The recoil is a bit stouter than other pistols of the same length - probably because it uses a shorter recoil spring system as the compact in the slim line family.

Received mine finally on Tuesday July 2nd. No registration papers yet. Feels great in the hand, dry firing has revealed a very stout trigger pull, guessing ~8 lbs, also the slide stop lever is fairly stiff when I use it to drop/release the slide. I'm hoping once I shoot a few hundred through it will break in and lighten and smooth out a bit.
Monday is the first day I can hit the range, will report back then.

Mine was tough to manipulate too, but either I'm getting used to it or it's getting "worked in" - tough to tell which. But I'm pretty confident you'll find it better after a few hundred rounds too.

Thanks for the observation. I'm hoping I have the same experience as well.
There's not a lot of aftermarket stuff for these small frame guns yet.

I received mine yesterday and immediately replaced the "sight place-holders" with a set of steel Ameriglo DeFoor sights in all black, then coated the front with orange model paint for a nice bold front (to assist my busted up right eye that needs a real splash of colour to pick things up now).

Installed some Hyve Industries base pads on the mags that came with the gun and am headed to the range tonight. It feels really good in the hand as I like to really wrap up the grip, I'll shoot it beside my G23 with a 40/9 conversion barrel in and see what the big difference is...

Got through 200 rounds on my 48. No issues at all. Still trying to break everything in. Installed Dawson sights FO front and black rear. Liking it so far.

Up to 1,000 rounds, no stoppages of any sort.

Trigger has not lightened/smoothed as expected.
Will be working on that as well as stippling definitely needed.
Also mags are a pain to load. Any fix for those?

I just got my G48. Haven’t fired it yet. But I noticed some wear on the top of the barrel in the chamber area like a Sig gets. Is this normal for a unfired 48? Usually the Glock barrel coatings are pretty tough.

I found round 10 very difficult, so cut the front and rear leg on the follower by about 1/10th inch. That helps.

Tonight I installed a Ghost Edge connector in my G48.

Trigger is slightly heavier now. ???

And I get the occasional dead trigger.

If it does not improve I will go back to stock.

An easy thing to do with the 48. Easier than the big Glocks. No spring hanging on the trigger bar to play with.

UPDATE: I phoned Mr. Ghost. He said I had assembled the pistol incorrectly. He walked me through it and I see what I had missed. Now pistol is 100% reliable. Trigger is the same weight as before. Maybe a tad smoother. Not worth the effort and angst. This Glock has the best out of the box trigger of all my Glocks.

Very interesting that it would be heavier.
I have a ghost 3.5 in my glock 17 and it worked great.
In my 19 gen 3 neither a ghost or a lone wolf worked. They wouldn't hold the striker back on reset. I thought it was just a tolerance difference on that particular specimen (a 19 gen 3 factory threaded) but one of my buddies at the range tried the same connector in his 19 (same model) and it had the same issue.

Has anyone else tried aftermarket connectors in their Glock 48s?

Just a couple hundred rounds through mine, and very pleased so far. Like everyone else with smaller hands I’ve struggled with all of the full size Glocks, and this and the 43 are close to the perfect fit. Pretty snappy though, and groups at 20m are nothing to write home about but they are getting better with each magazine.

I’ve had a half dozen light primer strikes with Blazer 115gr aluminum, which is the only ammo I’ve tried so far. Might have to strip it down a little further and see if there’s anything amiss inside.

Overall the most pleased I’ve been with a Glock yet. 10 rounds, single stack, decent trigger, TLR-6 fits like a glove, definitely a keeper.
