New Glock, shavings in slide?

Well, I went and paid for a Glock 17 yesterday at 5:30, faxed my range membership info later that night, phoned today at shortly after 1pm and the transfer was done and I had my short term ATT as well as my long term ATT faxed to the store 15 minutes later.

I was thinking it was a long drawn out process but I had my 1st restricted purchase done ( gun home and ready to run to the range) in under 24hrs. The lady I talked to in Edmonton was a doll, very professional and lightning quick.

AND so on to my question:

I had some metal shavings/flakes/slivers (silver/grey in color) in the slide when I took out the barrel and recoil spring, is that normal from factory? It's not showing any signs of damage that I can see.

Also, just curious as to what lubricants others are using on their glocks? What sort of light grease is found to be best?

There is usually factory grease on a few different wear areas on a new Glock. The stuff doesn't look too much like grease though, its sort of a bronze/copper colour and is designed to be there. If that is what you are seeing its normal, if there are bare metal shaving, that clearly isn't.

Is Glock using a different lubricant now then ? Every gen3/3.5 I have ever owned has had the copper-colored lubricant ?

Cortexburn, any pics of the shavings/slivers ?

I already cleaned up the metal bits, there were only a small amount of them and they did look out of place so I'm hoping it was just from the factory. Given there is no marks/damage on any of the parts I'm not too concerned but I'll keep my eye on it after I give it a work out. It was also a good sign they were only located at the top of the slide, hidden under the barrel from view. They could have even been just missed in whatever sort of final clean up they do with the guns.

I had the copper anti seize on mine but it was hard to see given the amount, I thought it was sent with nothing done in the way of lubrication. I understand less is more with lube and glocks but I'll be putting a drop here and there anyways. (as per the lube diagram)

Glock

I've had a few Brand new Glocks and they all had the little brass colored flecks in the underside of the slide. Nothing to worry about, they will be gone after the first cleaning and never reapear.
