Been on the fence for a while about a new gun. CZ's all shoot great, wanted to treat myself. Nordic had Anschutz on sale, so a very nice 1710 arrived today. Thanks Nordic, my CIL 310 finally has a big brother.

Anschutz makes a nice gun. A friend uses one on gophers too. The one issue you might want to be aware of is that the chamber may be on the tight side, and Winchester Brass and in particular the 555, 333, 222 stuff is the on the large side. It makes a bad combination. He carries a cleaning rod to poke out the cases that stick in the barrel when he is out gopher hunting. My suggestion is to buy a micrometer that reads to the 1/10th of a thou, and measure you ammo before you buy any significant quantity. Cases close to 0.224 will be fine, but those up around 0.225 are a problem in his gun. My Savage will shoot them though. Canuck Tire puts micrometers on sale for cheap every so often. Good investment.

New gopher gun? You just KNOW I was going to check out this thread! :) Congrats on the new rifle, I'm sure it will be very bad news for the gophers. Can't wait to see some pics of the rifle and of course...next spring...some photos of it doing what it does best! :)

What scope do you have in mind for it?

Won't be long for pics. Grabbed a set of Leopold med rimfire rings tonight, they have the correct shape to fit the round top receiver. Looking to fit my Bushy Elite 4-16x40. I'll see in a bit. Ammo testing will be next week, maybe it'll throw bulk stuff ok, got lots of it. Bought a couple boxes of Ely for giggles.

A tad disappointing, the Leupold mediums didn't work with the Elite. Best I could do for now is my Burris Timberline. A decent scope but not my first choice. The modded RWS airgun mounts I have on a couple of CZ's fit, but don't fit the bill in my eyes.

^ you know....I want to say I'm happy for you... :)

Seriously though, VERY nice rifle...congrats! I'm about 110% sure the gophers will like it. The most I've ever spent on a bolt-action 22 was FOR a gopher gun...so I can relate to wanting to do that sort of varminting with a nice rifle. (CZ in my case)

Had the new gun out yesterday. Surely doesn't disappoint. Sighted with CCI subs, tried some 333, had a couple of stuck cases as was warned about, then went for the gold with some Ely. At the end of the session, tried some more 333 without fail. Only shot at 20 indoor though. Didn't sign up at the outdoor club this year, too late now.

The 20 yard target look promising. As I think I suggested before measure your ammo before you buy it. Stuff close to 0.224 should be fine, while stuff close to 0.225 will likely cause case fail to extract problems. My friend's Anschutz frequently jams on the Winchester 555/333/222 which is all the same stuff, and I think is just another name for Winchester "Bottom of the Barrel". Winchester Dynapoints are better, but still seem to jam.

Canadian Tire frequently put this Mastercraft Micrometer on sale for about $18. Just flag it on the CTC site to notify you when it goes on sale. It is not worth $40. I think Princess Auto sells the same one for about $24.
