Well I was in Cabelas yesterday and ended up coming home with this.....



I've been reading some good things about this rifle as far as accuracy and reliablity, and it's 25 round magazines are legal. Didn't really need another 22, but this looks like it's going to be a lot of fun.
 
I love mine. Such a good rifle, surprisingly well built and is a good replication of the real thing.
 
I couldn't get past how junky the trigger is...
Bought one. Shot one match with it and sold it.
 
I saw they were on sale at Cabelas ,came pretty close to snagging one, perhaps later one day (well probably one day !!)

Very nice and well made ,I like it.

Wish they would bring the GSG MP-40 into Canada ,I would be all over that.

I have one and love it, you wont be dissapointed. It is a bit of a heavywieght though

Good question and unfortunately I can not makes sense of it either other then to speculate.
Here is my speculation, the looks of it is based off of a more famous "Hollywood/Media Gun" then the STG 44 and therefore is more recognized by the general public then the STG 44. The RCMP knows this and are trying to prevent panicked phone calls from the public whenever a person goes out to do some plinking with their Mossberg 22 rifle.
Officially the RCMP lab decided to classify it as an AK 47 derivative (prohibited) even though the gun doesn't even have the same internals. It is of a completely different design, blowback verses gas rod but of course you already know this.

I got my STG-44 (.22lr) in the summer and love this heavy metal and wood plinkster, picked up 3x extra mags and a K98 sling, easy to clean and a joy to hold, even other shooters want to see it once she comes out on the range.
 
Picked one up when they first hit canada. Glad i did. Ive had a lot of fellow shooters wanting to shoot it. Lots of fun, built really well. As for what 667 said about junky trigger , then sold it because of that? OK? LOL, whatever floats ur boat. Bottom line its a nice rifle to shoot. Dont plan on selling it anytime soon.
 
The trigger is the one of the few down sides to the rifle, but there again, its not a precision rifle so what do you really expect. I like mine, and it's fun to shoot and well built and finished.

With all due respect ,I don t think it was made to be a match rifle.I shot one and yes there is a lot of take up or creep, but I was not expecting a fine smooth 2 pound trigger.

Oh well, to each their own

These interesting-looking replications of an iconic WW2 firearm cost north of a thousand bucks here in UK, strange when you consider that -

1. They are made in Germany, less than 400 miles away, and

2. The UK is STILL in the European Market.

I'd like to own one, for sure, but right now I'd have to sell something that I have already, as my county firearms people think that I have way too many guns for my own good.

Over on gunboards.com a couple of years back, they were talking about a replication of the correct mount and scope - THAT might make me change my mind.

Anybody here scoped one yet?

I will be getting one in the next month or so, but too bad,as Cabelas had them for $50 off regular ,on sale for $549.00 noe back to $ 599.00

I purchased my StG 44 Schmeisser for measly $520 some time ago from Wanstalls with a scope mount attached. However, I removed it and returned to an iron sight.Somehow the StG 44 looks more authentic to me with an iron sight. In addition, I shoot it at max. 25 yards which is the length of my outdoor and indoor ranges. I do not need a scope for such a distance, yet.
Some people complain about the trigger pull. I measured it at 5.5-6.1 lbs. It's perfect for me, I personally see no problem with the trigger pull. All in all, the StG 44 is a nearly perfect .22cal plinker with a high capacity magazine. It's more accurate that I can be at 25 yards. I love it. Some people complain about the weight of it but again I'm still strong enough to handle mine comfortably. But, indeed, for weaker people, like some petite women and kids could be too heavy.

Yes indeed,very nice rifle!!

I agree, a scope would spoil the look, but hey....to each their own right.

AND...25 round magazine, whats not to like ?????

I can hardly wait to pick one up.

The only weakness I have had is with the magazine. Minus the usual break in and difficulty feeding from a full magazine, I have found that it is possible to have a .22 shell drop in backwards if you pull the spring down too far. Otherwise it has exceeded my expectations.

I wasn't expecting a match grade trigger either, but.... I was hoping.

Yes... It's a $600 plinker. Expectations should be had accordingly.
 
After shooting mine, I thought the long trigger pull was being faithful to a military type trigger, you wouldnt want a fine trigger on what could become a club, and during the heat of battle there would be so much adrenaline in your system it might aswell be a 4oz rekord.
