Ellwood Epps - SPRINGFIELD XD-45ACP TACTICAL $903 CDN

Don't like the Canadian prices? Here is what you do.
Buy a store, pay all you employ, keep the lights on, pay the taxes for the business, for the guns, buy business licence, pay for the firearms licence, pay someone to do all the paperwork required to buy and sell firearms, pay all the shipping and the import fees.
Go ahead, I dare you!
Our cost on this gun from our distributor is $2,156.00.
Our cost on this gun from our distributor is $820.91.
Please explain to us how a markup of less than 12% on a Colt Single Action Army, and of less than 10% on a Springfield XD is beyond reasonable.
I invite anyone to visit Wal-Mart, or Canadian Tire, or any other retail outlet and find markups on any product of this type of retail value that are lower than what we charge at Epps.
You forgot to mention the $1,000.000 of insurance paid annually to keep the store open, but I think you've hit it pretty much on the head from there. Thanks for the support!
So it's the distributor that is the reason for the high prices,,,,I see
and you pay "$1,000.000 of insurance paid annually to keep the store open"
how much do you guys make a year if you pay $1,000,000.00 for insurance alone, I didn't realize gun stores made millions per year, maybe I need to look at getting into this business

"millions per year"
You do know the difference between gross income and net profit right?
If you had bothered to think about what you are reading before you spouted off, you would realize that making $150 on a gun is not a lucrative business...
If you sell 1000 of $1000 guns with $100 profit, you have a 1 million dollar per year business in gross sales with $100,000 in gross profit.
Now out of the $100,000 gross profit, you have to pay staff, overhead, etc... That leaves you net profit which is minimal. If you do more sales, you need more staff and pay more overhead.
Gun stores are not a short cut to getting rich in Canada.
Glock 23 = $474.99USD, in Canada with aftermarket barrel, $999.00 CAD before GST. I would think that the vendor's up here would receive some type of credit for the original Glock barrel that would go towards the aftermarket product.
Its one thing to complain about higher gun prices in Canada, but I see people taking their business south of the border to maybe save a few bucks instead of supporting our gun dealers here -
Wouldn't supporting our Canadian gun dealers be conducive to creating a Canada with less stringent gun laws ??
How about buying local, keep our money in Canada, help to build our gun shops/dealers....they in turn will help our cause.
Of course we can whine about the higher prices here, spend our money elsewhere, and in a few years we have 1/2 as many gun dealers, how high are the prices gonna be then ?
I don't think we as gun enthusiasts should let cost/money be the total end all be all factor that drives our decision to purchase.
Hell, its only money.
Also it is my experience that it costs a helluva lot more to operate a business in Canada than in the U.S. Gun prices aside, our overhead and cost of doing business are way higher.....thats a generalized statement I know.
