New hunter.... Deer license questions?

Yes, I agree, but does he have it?....... more questioning the license depot than I am him or you...... after all, you can get one at service Ontario now...... enough said.....

He has it and he posted it, you just need to click the next image (arrow) on his photobucket link he posted....
He is good for one deer (several ways at it)...
Best of luck

I didn't apply for the anterless draw this year, but my controlled validation says I can shoot antlered or antlerless. Does this mean I am limited to an antlered deer during the bows only season but during the controlled hunt I am able to take either an antlered or antlerless deer?

I've received my antlerless tag for the last 14 years and this is the first year I forgot to apply for the antlerless draw. They need to come up with an automatic renewal program for those with busy schedules...

In my case I have an antlerless tag for 84 (rifle zone) so it's good for anything in 84 and buck only in any other rifle zone.

I also was successful in 85a (controlled hunt). Now the 2 tags I purchased at service Ontario with the controlled hunt validation slip allows 2 of anything in 85a but not valid outside of that wmu, am I missing anything?

If the OP gets a deer in the controlled hunt, he must attach both his deer seal and his controlled hunt validation tag to the dear, is that correct?

Based on your pictures you have:

1) A deer licence (which you must carry on your person) - this is different then the "seal" (tag) that you affix to the deer when it's harvested.

2) A deer tag/seal - in your case you were entered for a doe tag in the "bow only" WMU 92 and were "successful" - In ANY OTHER WMU it is simply a "buck tag" and can be used to harvest a buck "anywhere in Ontario" that ISN'T "controlled" whether you use bow, shotgun, rifle or black powder (as applicable to that WMU) in the open season. You "could have" used it to seal a DOE "only in WMU 92" during the bow season (obviously using a bow or crossbow).

and finally

3) you have a Controlled Hunt (permit) validation tag - that allows you to use your "deer seal" (listed as "2" above) to take a deer, "either" a Buck OR Doe in WMU 92B "ONLY" during the controlled hunt which runs from Nov 7 to 13 (with any firearms restrictions applicable to that controlled hunt as outlined in the regulations).

So - all this mumble jumble means 1) you can hunt a BUCK anywhere there is an open season with the firearms specified for that WMU. 2) You could have hunted Bucks and Does with a bow/crossbow in WMU 92 in the bow only season - if you chose not to hunt that then your (seal) reverted back to being a Buck only tag and 3) you can hunt Bucks and/or Does ONLY in WMU 92B during the controlled season and ONLY with the firearms allowed for that controlled hunt.

In 92B there is three "different" controlled hunts. You have a tag for the "first week" and are restricted to using Black Powder. Your tag does NOT allow you to hunt either of the other two black powder seasons in that WMU, but again, you could hunt a buck in any season of any other WMU that does not have controlled numbers (if you fail to "tag out" in your specified week).

Yes to both questions..

Yes that is correct the controled hunt (tag) is a validation tag only (to hunt bucks or antlerless deer) during the controlled season specified.....it is not a 2nd tag! This is as per Alymer MNR definition I call about earlier this fall!

You don't need to attach your validation tag. Keep that with you unless you won't be back out again during the controlled hunt.
After one of us has filled their seal, we will generally come out and push for the other guys during the day.

If you are stopped by a CO, depending on how the conversation goes they will likely want to see your controlled validation tag.
Two of the guys I hunt with came out to push and got stopped when they were getting ready to walk in. They didn't have shotguns and said they were coming to push.
Thus the CO wanted to see their validations to make sure they were legal. The one didn't have his, but the CO was able look up is outdoors card... after providing a very hard time about it.
Had they brought shotguns with bird shot and not said they were pushing, he wouldn't have asked for the validations.

Are you sure? It says on the tag that you must carry it with you during the controlled hunt. If you shoot a deer and attach the controlled hunt tag to a deer on Monday, how would you prove to the CO that stops you on Thursday that you're legal to hunt in that controlled hunt when the controlled validation tag is affixed to your deer at home?

If you have a group of 8 hunters who get stopped on Friday and 7 of them affixed their controlled hunt validation tags to deer earlier in the week, it would be a lengthy process checking if those 7 hunters are permitted to hunt in the controlled hunt or not.

The controlled permit is not attached to the deer. Only the deer seal is attached. You can party hunt on a controlled hunt. You need the controlled permit to prove your eligibility to hunt during the controlled hunt.

X2... better yet, get properly mentored into the sport... and don't just sight in... practice, practice, practice... and learn proper shot placement and range estimation and deer anatomy.... etc... you don't just "borrow a bow" and go hunting.

I guess I miss-typed. I would only attempt to hunt with a borrowed CROSSBOW, not a traditional/compound bow.

This is 100% correct. I was just trying to clairify that the validation tag is not 2nd tag. It just states that you are eligible to participate in the controled hunt for a deer either ###. But you are good to party hunt!

Ok here goes. This is my first year deer hunting. When I got my license in June, the lady asked if I wanted to enter the antlerless deer draw, as it was free and would give me a chance for a second deer if I was lucky. I also entered the controlled hunt draw online when the time came, and recieved a controlled hunt validation tag in the mail a few weeks ago. So, I now have a Deer License, a Deer Seal for antlerless (bows only, I don't have a bow) and a Controlled Deer Hunt Validation Tag, but no seal for the controlled hunt. went to the Service Ontario office yesterday, the man said that my Antlerless seal was good for whichever hunt I did. This doesn't sound right from what I've found online and in the Hunting regulations handbook. Any Ideas??

Unfortunately, you were fed some misinformation right off the top. The antlerless draw has nothing to do with "additional" deer. It just gives you more options in a particular WMU.

So I took my tag into a local firearm/ hunting store, where the knowledgeable staff quickly got into an argument over this. My friend has a WMU specific bow only antler less tag, that was easy, mine just says deer license and there are no restrictions. All I wanted to know when I can use a muzzle loader in that WMU because my friend though a muzzle loader can only be used in a controlled hunt when party hunting.

And is it a "muzzle loader" or "black powder", as in can one hunt with a muzzle loader with smokeless powder?
