This is kinda a test post to see if I can upload pix as well as introduce my newest regret.
After the loss of my English mastiff my wife and I decided she could never be replaced by another English and my other mastiff seemed depressed as well. So I took the opportunity to get another hunting dog in my life. Not another beagle or Basset hound. Not the bloodhound I was hoping for either but I got my first "bird dog". Kinda. She's a mix of bluetick coonhound and German short haired pointer.
Hoping to use her for coons and upland birds as well as tracking and recovering big game if needed

You can use dogs to track big game in Ontario? That is specifically outlawed in the hunting regs here in AB
In Ontario you can use a licensed dog on a leash to recover wounded big game. Been that way for about 10 years or so now I believe

Having this one I won't need to license my double mastiff for coon hunting. I'm sure she would have helped although not bred for it

Don't call her a "regret" yet!
So far she's been excellent. Been trying to tear my mastiff apart. Quite funny to watch. She seems to have an extremely high food drive so training should go well I hope. She's having a spa day with a groomer tomorrow and this weekend I'm hoping to take her to the bush and hang around the far end of the parking lot at the gun club.

Anyone else on here run a bluetick?

That's awesome. In AB you can only bring a dog as a pack animal, and only in the mountain WMUs. So my boy still makes it out with me thankfully, but it would be nice to have the option to train him to blood trail and not be breaking rules.

New dogs are always an adventure. My hunting buddy got a new pup Duke that Boone took a liking to , gonna be a fun season.

This is my dog. She is a blue tick cross and looked very similar to yours as a puppy. I take her up the mountains for goats. Couldn’t ask for a better dog
