New Hunting Rifle

The 300 RUM is versatile even with the full power loads. ive shot gophers, rabbits, beaver, coyotes, white tail and mule deer. and im gonna add moose to the list if they ever draw me. its not all that punishing unless i decide to sit on the bench and shoot for a long peroid of time. But my 300 WSM is my main big game rifle now unless im in an area where i anticipate a long long shot

I guess my point is if you want 308Win/30-06/300 Win mag versatility, then you do not need a 300 RUM, buy a 308Win or 300 WSM. IMHO

I'd go with a new SPS and Leupold VX-II 3-9X...just haven't been able to warm up to the new Tikka...for the price, there shouldn't be a single piece of plastic near the rifle. If you can live with that, they're fine shooters and will give years of good service. However, I think there are much better deals out there and Moose/Deer aren't going to be able to complain about being shot by a Remington as opposed to a Tikka! You can't go wrong with a .308 Win or .30-06 as a general, go-to hunting rifle. I'd avoid the .300 RUM. Unless you love recoil, insane muzzle blast and shooting away the price of a bottle of good rye every time you empty the rifle! :)

No, you just sold a RUM to a person that may have otherwise been scared off by the reports of the recoil.

I would bet that RUM sales are lagging and after the SAUMs going under Remington has nothing to loose to try to keep the RUMs afloat.

If you want a .308 AND a detachable mag for under $1200 with scope, there's not much selection out there. Either Tikka, Savage, or Browning. Remington SPS DM doesn't come in .308. Go for the Savage, and a good scope. :)
 
Thanks to everybody that provided info and to those that sent pics to me. I'll be getting the Tikka and probably in SS with a Burris 3x9x50 scope. Not definate on the caliber yet but might aim for the 300 win mag for abit more punch otherwise it will be 308. I'll post pics when I get it.

Epps has a used T3 SS in 300Win Mag with a Bushnell Elite 3200 for $799.

That's a good deal. I would get a better recoil pad for that rifle in that caliber as the ones on the T3s are quite hard.

I saw that on there site. Something to think about but I think I'll go new so I know where the guns been and how its been treated. And for some reason I'm not to keen on Bushnell although I'm sure they are fine scope.

yup, go new, guaranteed a good rifle then :D like the T3 270wsm I saw that had a screw off barrel! Must of been a pre-production takedown model ;)
