Hey guys,

I have a bit of a dilemma…I just acquired a new in box Remington Nylon 66 Apache Black Chrome. It’s complete with all literature and the original sales receipt from 1983.

I’ve been looking for one of these for a while but I’m not a collector and I’m thinking by the looks of it I may have a valuable little piece.

Just looking for some insight on value and would I greatly depreciate it if I use it?

Thanks

Ryan

If it was brand new in a box unfired in new condition I would keep it that way as a collectors item. You can always buy other guns to shoot. Guns like this are real gems and do NOT come up very often. I can’t speak of what the value would be BUT if it was me I would not fire it but that’s just me. 40 year old brand new in box guns are not very common. A few years back Ruger had their 50th anniversary edition 10-22s for sale. I hand picked one of the models from Cabelas with the nicest French walnut stock as a collectors item. It is a safe queen for me, the box is stored in the basement, and in 30 plus years it will still be a 50 year anniversary collectors edition 10-22 unfired brand new with original mint condition box.

Thanks for your input, I’m kinda thinking the same thing now… I’m not much of a collector though as I like using my stuff.

May have to move it along as nice as it is.

The only real value to them are collectable, kinda #### rifles all around.
If you can dump it and make money go for it.

I'm usually the same way, but I do have a new, unfired No5 carbine in my gun safe. I'll never shoot it, but I'll probably make a few bucks when I sell it.

Easy choice... lots of collectors out there, high value gun and sought after, quite rare these days.
SELL IT! Better yet, put it up for trade. It will get lots of interest here.

A black apache was my first gun in 1978. I sold it long ago mostly due to the creepy trigger pull and flimsy stock and today prefer other guns by alot. Those nylons are not good with scopes. I'd take a norinco jw20 over a nylon, a better gun in every way, or instead of shooting it
buy a used nylon you can shoot if you like open sight durable reliable rifles. They run around 300.

I see one in the states selling for the asking price of $1800US. In a perfect world this would make the value 1800 cdn, up here. These are weird collectables, as I never thought they were good 22s, but they have gone from 400 to 6-700$ in Canada. As always, you need to find the right person to get this money.

You should sell or save, not shoot.

Just for interest sake how much was paid for that rifle new in 83 ? I realize the price has no bearing on today’s collector value but I would be interested in knowing . RJ

I bought one way back in 1974 in Kamloops, BC. I think I paid $50.00 for it. Which was not cheap considering I was making $52.50 net a week at that time. I wasn't overly impressed with the rifle and sold it a couple of years later for what I paid for it. Prices for these rifles today are way beyond what I would be willing to pay even if I wanted another one for nostalgia purposes. If it were mine, I would sell it for top dollar and purchase something else to shoot and have fun with.
