I've recently acquired a Spanish made 10 gauge SxS marked "ibargun" and am overjoyed. She's very heavily built and locks up solidly. This particular gun has a set of choked 32" barrels that are in beautiful condition, wonderful fowling barrels, but not much use as the bear wallopin' slug gun I was hoping to have the option for. I'm wondering if there's any other folks who've been in my shoes who might know where to start looking for a gunsmith to build and regulate a set or 2 of barrels for me. Additionally I'd like to eventually have a set of big bore rifle barrels made up if it can be done safely. Any input would be much appreciated!
Sincere thanks- a man born too late

Most big bore doubles were made on 20 gauges, unless you are looking to go like 600h&h a 10 gauge frame is rather large, might even be on the large side for that.

I'm wanting to go with a big 40 cal. The most I'd need in my opinion would be a 470 NE but everything I've been reading says even a 416 rig or rem would be far too much for most shotgun frames. This is a beastly peice of steel but I wouldn't want to push it anywhere near the upper limit. I'm rapidly discovering that the practice is a bit put of style

Is there a rib between the two barrels that could be drilled/tapped to install sights if want to use it for a slug gun. Buck shot from it would work for close range bear also. For rifle caliber, is barrel sleeves a possibility

Everything I have read the shotgun frames are more for old low pressure rounds. I’m not familiar with some of the big bores that aren’t from here, but I would be cautious with stressing the frame too much, as shotguns are low pressure setups. 10 gauge slugs in a double gun would be quite the contender on most game though.

I suspect that once you find out the price of having a set of barrels struck and fitted that you will find it to be quite impractical from a financial standpoint. For the cost of barrels you can buy an actual double rifle and still have your 10ga for shotgunning.
