NEW ITEM: Dominion Arms Socom 18

No worries hawk.. Im in the same boat and date.. Emailed them and they said short staffing was the cause. They said my order should be shipped today but it did not.. Hoping it doesnt get shipped while my work weeks begun. At least ur not five mins away from them with no pickups.. Such a tease.. Ill be sure to update on my own total time to receive for those still wondering. Rest assured they are doing the most with their resources.

Hoping for a good example. Being my first one i have a lot of learning to do with replacements and inspections and such. M14 stickys have been massively informaive and helpful. Check the stickys out if you havent already first timers!

Only thing im finding difficult is deciding what replacement parts are worthy to buy (brand) and where the heck to get them.. Much more searching to be done. First on the list is finding all the places to buy proper parts to make it more reliable (op rod spring guide, op rod guide, usgi bolt etc).

Thanks to all the norinco vets chiming in with the advice and solutions for the various people acquiring these. I know i appreciate and value it.

Why don't you go fire it first and then decide what needs upgrading, before sinking money into update, that may not make a difference. Just a suggestion, it's your money, do all the updates you want and rem post pics :)

Might sound like a noob here, but who cares. I see that it does not line up, but what problems would that cause?

Don't worry too much, just go out and shoot it and see how it performs. You will most likely find it shoots bang on for windage, so no problem. If you want to tweak it to see if you can make it shoot a little better, go ahead and fiddle with it, but you just might find it is OK the way it is. Too many people think they should get a match grade specification rifle for less than $500. Way too many people start modifying their rifles without even shooting them.

If your brand new rifle malfunctions - send it back. Don't start ripping it apart, tweaking parts and then expect the dealer to accept it for a refund.

Appreciate all the input. I plan on shooting it and seeing how she does after cleaning it. Good point rain.. But with all the drop in parts and tweaking people do im guessing only major malfuncions typically justify a return? Things like lugs contacting imroperly.. Op rods n springs being messed up and barrels misindexed seem to be common non return issues that everyone deals with. I guess returns are just up to your discretion of what youre willing to fix and a luck of the draw n how proper your rifle is out of the box.

Also in terms of cleaning the oil off. Is mineral solvents acceptable like i do for all my russiansin cosmo or is something else more advised. I read a post somewhwre about simply green being bad for aluminum if you leave it on so trying to avoid it for something safer. I have seen brake cleaner?

well for one thing the front sight is canted to the left, possible binding issues with the op rod and insufficient gas to the op-rod.

Thanks for the answers

Got mine, indexing appears good, glue on stock rubbed off, fit and finish top notch, only problem I found was the op rod guide is a little loose and a little to one side. Should I be concerned?

When installing a recoil buffer I noticed that the gun does not appear to approach the buffer. The spring when fully compressed is an inch away from the receiver/mag area. Is this an issues? The buffer is not needed.

The op rod guide can be tightened by removing the guide and peening the metal underneath and then replacing with some locktite. If you can attend one of Tactical Teacher's M14 clinics. A wealth of information.

Thanks will try that. What are your thought on full stroke re lack of, as it appears the op rod can't slam the receiver.

i've been told that recoil buffers actually hinder proper operation and should not be used at all on the M14 platform.

I've had mine for a couple days now and I couldn't be happier with it! It arrived in great shape and the flash hider was easily removed by hand. I had a chance to run a few rounds down the pipe this afternoon and man with the flash hider in the reversed position this thing throws one hell of a fireball! This is one fun rifle! Thanks again Can Am for another great deal;) Keep em coming maybe something in the 9mm flavour next time?

a barett m99 in 22LR too.....

(edit: you probably talking about a new kind of firearm in 9mm....)

My indexing is way off. I called Canada ammo and they say it is not a warranty problem but they are helping me make it right. Thanks Canada Ammo.
