New Lipsey’s Ruger M77 Alaskan in 9.3x62 and 35 Whelen

What pisses me off is that I just made that exact rifle in .350 Rem Mag.

This is my version of the same rifle, Ruger M77 MKII Stainless/Laminate .350 Rem Mag, 20" Bob Jury barrel, NECG sights, Leupold VX-R 2-7X33mm IR. I guess the only slight (very slight) benefit, is that my version is a Short Action.

Both of these carbines shoot lights out, absolute joy to carry and shoot.

Seen here paired with my .458 WM Carbine.

Your custom rifles are way nicer than these new Lipsey models.....:)

And I bet they actually can hit where you aim as well.

Nice 😊 what lenght barrel on your build 22 “ ? Or what speed are those 250 Parts going? 😊
I’ve had 2 350 RMags But sadly both gone .🥲
The rifle has a 20" Bob Jury barrel on it, NECG sights, Leupold VX-R 2-7X33mm IR. This load is at 2475 with the 250 Partition... I got 2540 with Tac and 2560 with BL-C(2), but the accuracy was half of what I get with W748... so I went with Accuracy over a few extra fps. Zero - 230 dead-on with a 2.5" KZR, 9" low at 300. Quick shots to 250 will cover pretty much all of the bigger game. Some of the smaller stuff in the Kalahari and Namib desert will be taken (or at least shot at), with a 6.5 Rem Mag.

I love how you're using your favorite oddball cartridges to hunt in Africa and not following the old adage of only using common cartridges when traveling for a hunt in case your ammo gets lost.

always the optimist EH :p
Always! It would kill me to spend time and money to research and build my perfect rifle, perfect stock, scope, etc...Decide on my perfect cartridge, research which bullet I want and do load development and get everything all perfect. Then leave that rifle behind and just use the outfitters beat up Rem 700 .30-06 with a box of Corelokt! Don't get me wrong the .30-06 and Corelokt would probably be adequate but for me using the rifle I chose is just as important as the hunt.

I’ve only been able to inspect my Whelen so far. Gun looks great with the exception of a groove on side of rear sight base you can hook your nail on (PR also great said they’d do a return if I chose to), my barrel is tight and contacting stock (not free floated) , trigger is just over 4lbs. Easier fixes, but still. The gun profile matches my 375 Ruger Alaskan. One of the reasons I bought it. Going to have and get it to the range when time permits to check my cycling etc and see if I have any issues like wolfshowlatmoon. Hopefully I don’t.
Unfortunately Ruger/Marlin or Ruger's quality control can be hit and miss right now......:(

I think they are trying to pump out way too many guns due to the demand, and as a result the quality control goes for a sh!t.

It's the stupidest idea going, however it's very real I'm afraid.

Get the guns out fast, sell the guns, then deal with the warranty claims from upset customers.....:(

Most gun manufactures do this these days. Except Browning and Tikka from my experience as a retired dealer and a consumer, or customer as well.:(

You are absolutely right my bad!
That said I don’t carry a hunting rifle only to use it to stop charging games cause so far in 30years of hunting in grizzly country and the mighty Yukon Alaska moose I would have never fired a shot… but shot at 100-150 yards in hunting situations that I do quite often and if my sights are 5” low at those distances than it sucks big time! Ruger focked up that’s all!
Yes, but that was before grizzly hunting was closed in most areas due to political motivation and pressure from do-gooders.

Grizzly bear populations are very high and on the increase in Alberta, and BC.

If I were a betting man, I would bet one's odds of having to shoot a charging grizzly bear to save your life or your partners life have increased ten fold.

And you are right, Ruger screwed up on this rifle, definitely with the rifle sights issues. However they will make it right under warranty.

I have a brand new Ruger/Marlin Stainless Trapper in 10mm auto that already needs warranty parts and we have not even fired it yet......:(

I don’t live in bc or Alberta, and the people that were vocal about it had to go through lipsey cause Ruger wasn’t really helpful… and when they were, they said they didn’t have a lower front sight available… anyway I like Ruger and I still think they make a good rifle but this one they screwed up and they shouldn’t have, it easy to take the rifle out and shoot a few rounds and then say we ####ed up les fix it before any of these dogs go out!

Last year I took a .375 WSM, this year the .350 RM.& 6.5 RM, next year the .458 WM and 7.62X57 HC....all loads worked up already and rifles zeroed and ready to go. I don't worry about losing ammo enroute, if it happens I can deal with it in camp, but it only happens rarely, and I am not losing sleep over it. What's the point of being a "Gun Nut," and not shooting your own rifles and ammo?

💯 Couldn't agree more!
