I don't usually run to post pictures of everything I buy, but I am pretty happy with this purchase.

First year of production at Long Branch. All serial numbers match, but it has had the front sight protector and front barrel band upgraded to the later patterns (although the band is the early thick model). The search is now on for a hinged band and "waisted" front sight protector. In the meantime, I think I'm going to have to get this thing out and and fire a few rounds through her.

Lee Enfields make me happy. :D

This is a very nice find.
Congratulations and well done.

Very lucky.

Very nice score indeed! Not FTR'd either...
Good deal on it?

Hinged band you might find, waisted protector...that's pretty tough. I could use a couple...someone should make some repros.

That would be close to number one for many of us on here...:D
Thanks for showing the pics.

Great find .... :dancingbanana:

Beautiful piece..... :)

I've hid this thread from ~Angel~ as she'll be driving you crazy to acquire it, since it's one of the few pieces she's still missing from her Enfield collection. :D

Badger

Wow! Part with a 41 LB? Usually someone's estate does that...not usually the guy who grabs one...:cool::wave:

Thanks, and little bit of both. I decided around a year ago that I really wanted to get one of these so I did my research and put the word out. Since then I have turned one down (too much $), found a cut down '41 for restoration, and I just picked this one up in the last week or so. I have a line on parts for the restoration project as well.

As far as being pestered to sell it, don't worry, I don't think it's going anywhere until I find a better one. I'm not holding my breath on that happening any time soon. I'm not a big fan of refinished, FTR'd, or non matching parts guns. I doubt I'll sell the restore project (a non matching parts gun ) either unless the same circumstances occur. The one in the photos is 2 groove, the cut down is 5 groove.

I have a LB marked waisted front sight protector on my 41 but I need a LB marked hinged front band.I am offering $100.00 if anybody has one for sale.

A few questions:

Both serial numbers under 10,000?

2 groove barrel dated 1942?
5 groove barrel dated 1941?

The barrelled action with the 5 groove barrel is sn 0L45XX and the barrel is dated '41. The one in the photo with the 2 groove barrel is sn 0L98XX. I will have to pull the wood off again to confirm the date on the barrel. Give me a day or so and I will see what date is on the barrel and update.

My '42 with a few early features has a 2 groove barrel and is serial number 11L59XX.

Yeah, the 1941 with the 5 groove barrel is '41 dated (0L4### IIRC), while the 2 groove is '42 dated.

The 2 groove appears to have the earlier serial number, though it really appears that they weren't sure how to procede with them (1L1xx IIRC).

I'm wondering whether the reason no? 10,000+ No4MkI LBs appear to be known is because they shifted the first digit as Savage did after they reached the million mark.

ala 0L9999 being followed by 1L0 or some variation thereof.

My 41LB

Here is a pic of my 41LB. Sorry pic is a little dark, trying to educate myself on posting pics.
My barrel is 2-groove and serialed to the gun (OL6298).

Am waiting for my PAL in the mail. My dad has a no4 mk1/2 but I live in LongBranch and after getting into SMLE's I thought hey I'll get one, that would be neat to have. After reading this thread I won't hold my breath.
