New made Japanese Winchester 92?

Actually, the cross bolt safety is a hideous thing . The tang safety I don't mind though as it doesn't really change the appearance of the rifle. I don't really care for the AE on the 94 neither. I was out bear hunting with my 1886 Short Rifle in 45-70 this AM and really enjoyed it.

I had the opportunity to do a hands on at the SHOT SHOW in Vegas. While I have not had the pleasure of shooting one, the fit/finish and smoothness of the action was by far better than any of any Winchester lever I have ever handled. OMHO
Cheers.

I absolutely love mine. I have the Browning 1886 SRC, 1895 rifle in .30-06, Model 71 Carbine and also the new Winchester 1886 Short Rifle in 45-70. The new one shoots the best. I just love it.

I really really really want one of those short rifles! I just got a Rossi 92 in .454 Casull though so it might be a while before i can save enough coin for another 45 cal. I hope they're still making them in a year or 2. Did i mention that i reallllllly wanted one? Cause i do. Really! :D

I was just in at Reliable here in Vancouver and handled one too. It sure is a pretty little thing. It was a 94 but they would be the same as far as fit and finish goes. An older 94 looks almost rough beside one of these. Then again some here would think it too perfect bearing in mind the Japanese attention to detail. I bet its accurate too-seems most of their barrels are. More expensive than a Browning bolt but it sure is nice. My new Xbolt is Miroku made too and they didnt miss a thing. Might even bring down the value of used older Winnies at least the non collectible stuff so its a bit more affordable. Still I can pick up a pre 64 for about $400 so there is a choice as there are not many used Miroku 94s.

Wages are higher in Japan, corporate taxes are higher, living costs are higher, and still they manage to produce a better quality product cheap enough that it can be resold here at a profit to members of this sunset society.

Meanwhile companies like Marlin spiral into oblivion.

Not hard to see why.

I've been daydreaming over the Miroku 1892 carbine for a while now. Can anybody tell me about options for ghost ring sights on these?

Wow...just looked at the price of the Miroku Winchester 94...$1300 plus tax plus shipping...
$1514.12 give or take...

I can buy almost 4 used pre 64 Winchester 94's in very nice shape for that...

As nice as they are...

12 or 1300. Reliable watches the WSS site and prices accordingly as we can drive to the WSS site here on the Wet Coast. Most of our local dealers do because of the close proximity of Wholesale.

I want one! I can only save a wee bit of my pention cheque each month so it's gonna take a while! Just wondering, are the new ones only in 30-30?

The tang safety only makes it more safe. There is no future in the past.

Then why bother with leverguns at all, by that logic? The main selling point of them is their association with the Old West and any departure from the original design diminishes that appeal. I don't see Colt putting transfer bars into SAAs.

As for safety, it is primarily a function of the user, not the firearm. Marketing to the inept does not strike me as a good strategy.

That said, the Japanese generally make good stuff, so I wouldn't rule out one of the Miroku-built 92s solely because of the tang safety. If one does not care for it, it is still possible to manually lower the hammer in the traditional manner.

I didnt check to see what other cals they came in at the time two-dogs but any of them would be purdy no doubt. Suggestion-if you have a dealer you are known at near you maybe try swapping him one of you castoffs and work out something on lay-o-way. That way you are covered if there is a price increase.
Also consider giving the dealer a gun or two on consignment to apply the balance from the sale to your Winnie. Lotsa ways to cover this one. Dealers are hurting too so are usually open to creative financing. Whats he got to lose??

In response to tjhaile there are other considerations. Leverguns are an easy solution to someone that is left handed. Very popular action for lefties and all over Hells half acre. They are also an alternative to racks of bolt actions. Bolt actions are boring but they are precise and reliable but not a "fun" action to my mind. Kids and ladies like them and the old dirty 30 is easy on the shoulders. Yes they do come in bolt action but a levergun for some cals is just appropriate. Then there is the weight issue. Light carry and fast pointers. You can probably get a followup shot faster with a lever or pump that any bolt once you are used to it. Besides they are KOOL. I have yet to see a bolt action rifle at our Cowboy Action corral. Not likely to ever happen either. Try putting a bolt action in your saddle scabberd.....

two -dogs, the new 94's come in 38-55 also. Model 94 sporter- 24 " half octagon- half round barrel. I have one in the safe that I haven't had time to fire yet. picked it up at Corlanes in dawson Creek a few months ago
