Got me a new Marlin 336SS yesterday for my birthday. Pretty excited to go slay some coastal black tail this fall with it. Special thanks to my wife who bought the rifle for me. The dies, ammo, and powder I bought with some birthday money.

What are some of your favorite loads for the 30-30? I was planing to do the 150gr Sierra load that Hodgdon has on their website. Has anyone done 110gr FMJ loads with the rounded M1 Carbine bullets? Can it work safely in the tube magazine without a cannelure? My Lyman manual shows a load for the 30-30 with the Horandy 110gr FMJ Just wondering about spring pressure seating the bullet deeper.

As Hickok45 would say, "Life is good."

Beauty! Congratulations and Happy Birthday.

Hornady LeverEvolution is the factory fodder stuff I like in the levers. Works great.

I see the hammer spur on there... What scope are you thinking of going with?

Cheers
Jay

I put the hammer spur on because it feels easier to reach and #### the hammer. Not planing on a scope for now. My other rifles I don't have scopes either. I just like the handiness and quick maneuverability of an unscoped rifle. I also removed the front sight hood. For some reason, I like the front sight hood on all three of my CZ but I don't like it on the Marlin. If I were to put a scope on it though, Id probably put a Leupold VX-Freedom 1-4x20

All my 336’s have loved the Federal Fusion 170gr ammo. Hammer on Blacktail.

Great choice OP. The 30-30 is a handy and very effective cartridge for the Island.

Congratulations and happy birthday. Very nice Marlin you have :)

I have received my Marlin 336 last week, rail and red dot are coming because I already know I can't see the iron sight clear lol

Life is good with the 336 I just picked one up last summer and I am more than impressed. It was and is a tack driver right out of the box. At first all the trash talked had me worried but one of the best buys for sure.

She's a keeper! And so is the marlin. Happy birthday. I have a youth 336 in ramline slim stocks. Williams peep and a fire sight front. Super compact and shoots flies off a fence post with 170 federals. I'm interested in the 100 or 110 gr plinkers too. Looking forward to someone posting here about how they worked out.

I use 110 gr. round nose privis or cheap armscor 110 gr. round nose with 21 gr. vihtavouri n110 a great light load powder. They shoot a bit low but windage right on compared to my 150 gr. full power loads

Wow thats a nice looking rifle. Good piece of walnut and it really goes well with the SS finish.

Happy belated!

I put the hammer spur on my 336XLR, as well. I have a scope on it and it's absolutely necessary but doe also make reaching and cocking the hammer a lot easier. Beautiful rifle, by the way. Congrats!
