What I was getting at is that you can still mil with a non-FFP scope, and for the amount of times most people actually do it, it's probably more than fine. I'm betting 90%+ of recreational shooters have never range estimated with their optic, and/or haven't the slightest idea how to do it properly.
Myself, I like a very fine reticle (NP-R1), and would rather have the tradeoff on milling-annoyance. Of course, I'm only killing paper, and I'd be talking out my ass about my needs otherwise.
All I range with is reticle, and I much, much prefer FFP for obvious reasons. I use a TMR reticle, works just fine for precision, even at high mag.
