So I received my new Norinco M1911A1 Sport Two Tone from Marstar this week and managed to take it out to the range. Here are a few observations:

- The gun and mags were absolutely drenched in thick brown oil. Really took me quite a while to clean them up and get most of that oil off. I know it is probably to keep it from rusting during shipping/storage, but what a mess.

- The two included magazines really didn't fit very well. In fact one got completely stuck and I couldn't get it out until I field stripped the gun. When I tried to load this mag the spring failed and the folllower stayed in the lowest position. I was able to free it, but it happened again and the ammo would just fall out. Didn't matter, since this mag could hardly be removed from the pistol anyway.

- The other magazine was a bit of a tight fit, but worked. After the first two mags I shot, the slide would no longer lock back out of battery when this mag was empty.

- Now to the gun itself. It shot really nice and accurate and felt pretty solid. The trigger was surprisingly nice. No malfunctions at all in the first 100 rounds, other than the slide locking back, but I blame the mag for that. All in all, it was a lot of fun to shoot.

- I noticed right at the front end of the slide where it meets the receiver there is some obvious rubbing, as the finish is starting to come off on the slide. I have seen this in other pics before, so I assume it is normal.

As far as the mags go, I was pretty disappointed that one would be defective right out of the box and the other would start having problems almost right away. The fact that they barely fit in the gun was annoying. I managed to get some new 8rd mags from Dlask, but after I had gone to the range so I didn't get to shoot with them. But they fit perfectly, no rubbing/scraping when they go in or out of the gun.

I have sent an email to Marstar about the mags to see if there is anything they could suggest and am waiting to hear back.

For what I paid, I'm fairly happy with the gun I got and how it shot. My expectations were obviously lower due to the price, but it is still frustrating to have problems like that with something brand new.

Just wanted to share this and see if anyone else has had any similar experiences.

The MAG problem is something usual with all the NORC's/ Norc m4 mags are crap too/ I use Magpul, USGI, LAR15s and they work without a hitch/ the guns are made very well at this price range. Have fun shooting

Yeah, the mags I got from Dlask seem much more solid and fit much nicer in the gun. I'm sure the next time I take it to the range, I'll be able to prove that they were the solution.

This is all I took so far, just a quick/crappy pic from my phone. I'll try and get a few pics of it with my DSLR when I have time.

Oh yeah, now that I looked at the pic again, I remembered what I forgot in my original post. :)

I added Hogue grips to it, which I really like.

Just wanted to say that alot of the Norcs I have played with have had issues with the machining of the mag release itself.

It would interfere with the mag dropping free and make it hard to insert the mag without a lot of force.

A little filing and problem solved. I have had to do this to my Norc Police model and a friends. In the end I swapped my mag release with an STI and the original mags worked without issues.

The one thing I hated about my Norc what the grip saftey, My mags work well. My 1911 is a goverment model, and came with wrap around houge style grips. I changed the grip safty lickity split and bobbed the hammer. The trigger was changed by previous owner.

THEMIKEA;
Re your mag problems, as with anything purchase at Marstar, they are fully garanteed, send them back for replacement.

When I first got my sport my mags were tight too... after a few hundred shots everything seems to break in and there's no issues now. Did you strip everything and clean the grease or just the outside?

Funny my nork mags worked better than the colt ones I had. Becareful buying after market mags, the Chip Mccommrick 10rds mags fed the round at to flat of an angle for my commander, there are about 76 different models of mags for 1911's. So far the most reliable mags I found for mine are the hi-cap mags sold by Dlask, the price is good also.

one of my original 2 nork mags were iffy at the start too in my armco 1911, feeding problems, sometimes get jammed in the gun, not locking slide back.... but now with many rounds through, they dont seem to jam at all anymore.

+1 on the dlask 8 rounders tho, I have 3 of them and they function flawlessly

My Norc only has a few mags through her but not a single issue. The mags fit pretty well and drop free quite nicely. They do take a firm slap to seat properly and they don't really FEEL very high quality but there's been no problems with FTF/FTE or slide not locking back, so functional mags are definitely out there.
