So I received my new Norinco M1911A1 Sport Two Tone from Marstar this week and managed to take it out to the range. Here are a few observations:
- The gun and mags were absolutely drenched in thick brown oil. Really took me quite a while to clean them up and get most of that oil off. I know it is probably to keep it from rusting during shipping/storage, but what a mess.
- The two included magazines really didn't fit very well. In fact one got completely stuck and I couldn't get it out until I field stripped the gun. When I tried to load this mag the spring failed and the folllower stayed in the lowest position. I was able to free it, but it happened again and the ammo would just fall out. Didn't matter, since this mag could hardly be removed from the pistol anyway.
- The other magazine was a bit of a tight fit, but worked. After the first two mags I shot, the slide would no longer lock back out of battery when this mag was empty.
- Now to the gun itself. It shot really nice and accurate and felt pretty solid. The trigger was surprisingly nice. No malfunctions at all in the first 100 rounds, other than the slide locking back, but I blame the mag for that. All in all, it was a lot of fun to shoot.
- I noticed right at the front end of the slide where it meets the receiver there is some obvious rubbing, as the finish is starting to come off on the slide. I have seen this in other pics before, so I assume it is normal.
As far as the mags go, I was pretty disappointed that one would be defective right out of the box and the other would start having problems almost right away. The fact that they barely fit in the gun was annoying. I managed to get some new 8rd mags from Dlask, but after I had gone to the range so I didn't get to shoot with them. But they fit perfectly, no rubbing/scraping when they go in or out of the gun.
I have sent an email to Marstar about the mags to see if there is anything they could suggest and am waiting to hear back.
For what I paid, I'm fairly happy with the gun I got and how it shot. My expectations were obviously lower due to the price, but it is still frustrating to have problems like that with something brand new.
Just wanted to share this and see if anyone else has had any similar experiences.
