I've been known to do a little hip shooting when no one was looking. At our club one of the rules is that all targets must be shot from the shoulder. Hip shooting doesn't give you the same control over the gun as shooting from the shoulder although it is fun.:dancingbanana:

heck, during some shotgun events we are required ot shoot our shotguns one handed!!:runaway:

These are the type of weapons that give gun owners a bad name. Something like that doesn't interest me in the least. I find absolutely no astetic appeal to these things at all. Now if it was the gracefull lines of a fine trap gun, or the pure joy of picking up a quality bird gun well that's different. But I guess to each his own.

This seems to be the statement of an anti gun person.

The gun may not interest me, either, but the fact of the matter is that it does EXACTLY the same thing as any other shotgun, which is to shoot pellets at velocity.

it may "scare" some peopel becasue of thier reliance on Hollywood to educate them abotu guns, but the net resultis the same; Pellets shooting out of a barrel...

So when you shoot skeet from the hip can you still control the "jug" in your left hand or do you put it down and have a swig after you shoot?

By your thinking, anyone who does not shoot a firearm the way *you* believe it should be shot, automatically makes them a drunkard. This seems to be a very pathetic way of thinking.

That's not a shotgun. A shotgun has wood steel and personality. This is something that is black and made in China.
Well here's something black and made in America. It has a "personality" all its own.

I really have to get out to Haggisfest next year. I'll bring the P-gun and my 870. :dancingbanana:

I think your just going with the flow. I have never seen anthing like these at the clay range. Actually I don't see the purpose of owning one at all.. Just my opinion.

several of our members use short barrel shotguns at the shotgun range, especaily in events which have the clay dropping rigth in front of you, at close range.

The purpose of most short barrel shotguns are hime defens, bear defense and just plain ol' fun. Fun tops my list.:p

I am sorry but what clay event has the clay it dropping right in front of you?

Actually, defintions of shotguns usually revolve around "smooth bore" and "shooting shot" although of course there are variations (such as rifled barrels, paradox guns etc)

The fact that you don't "like" this shotgun is relevant only to you.

if you have a clay thrower and a shotgun, your imagination is the only thing that limits you.

We often an event that has you directly in front of the machine (but 40 yards out) and the thrower shoots it straight up, then drops the clay about 10 yards in front of you. You have to bequick, and most guys will hit where the clay just was, and nail the trees etc, as the clay drops to the ground, unharmed.

It is fun, and it's humbling..;)

Shooting trap one handed is pretty damn hard- luck is usually the deciding factor!

However, one of our better shooters (who also uses a 20" shotgun for some events) seems to be able to nail about 40% of the clays one handed, at the closest range. :runaway:

Sorry for having an opinion, Tell me how are your scores at the trap range with one of these? I would like to know your scores from shooting from the hip, then your regular shoulder scores.

You need to get out more. Your knowledge of sporting clays is somewhat limited. You can get almost any target presentation including one that drops in front of you.

That has to wait until the shooting stops and the shotguns are put away. No drinking and shooting for us! We are responsible red necks.

We used to have a fun shoot one a year at our club where they tied a full water bottle to your barrel. That sure changed the "swing" of your gun!

Guess your right. Next time I go out shooting clay's I'll use a shotgun with an 18" barrel.

Use whatever gun makes you happy and have fun doing it. There's no need for shooters to pass judgement on what guns other people are using when there are plenty of anti-gunners who do that already.

Shooting shotguns form the hip, one handed and wiht short barrel shotguns are less than scores form the shoulder. However, i view shooting as "FUN" and all of these practices fall into the "FUN" parameters.

FWIW, i've shot clays wiht High dollar 0/U's, SXS, less expensive O/U's, autp loaders, pumps and single shots (both cheapos and $$$ trap guns)

I find I do the best in trap wiht my synthetic Norinco pump 870, with a Remingotn 24" barrel (with interchangebale chokes) installed.

I think you miss the entire point of most non pro shooting sports, which is to simply have fun.:p

That is where it's at...do waht makes you happy, and makes yo uhave fun..Use hatever gun does that.

Hell, i've shot at c;lays wiht a .22 rifle, and even if you break one in ten, it's fun.:)

And that is what I was trying to get at with my post. The prohibited list is as retarded as it gets. " This gun looks evil...lets ban it..." is the rule of thumb for it's creation.

I've no issue with people not liking how it looks as Canada is sorta...kinda a free society, and yet I really don't like people dumping on what guns I can use because they don't "look" good or they would never shoot clays with an 18" barrel. I took the courses, I've kept my nose clean...I've jumped through all the hoops put forth...let me own what I want.

Win/64, I agree that many guns don't have the warmth of wood or the character of engraved recievers.....and yet to many the sleek lines ( to some) of the AR15 or Mossberg 590 are what does if for them. While your dislike for the guns at the start of the thread is valid to you, the wording of your statement struck me as ironic as it is the sort of attitude that prevaids those that are for firearms limitations and construction of lists based upon THEIR "feelings" for the firearms. Nothing substantive..just a wishy washy vote grab.

Not to fan any flames of discontent, but I disagree that the "look" of the gun is responsible for the general public's opinion of it.

I think that instead, it is the context in which the firearm is shown.

So many movies, SO many movies are made which represent various types of firearms, and I beleive that it is these films which bring the mystique of the firearm type.

for example, AK-47...associated with the "bad" guys..prohib...
Ar-15....associated with police.....restric.

and of course,.....who ever looks at a plough handled single action without hearing whistle music and thinking of sagebrush?:p

Oh well, as for me, I like the top shotgun in the picture.

I'm not fond of the bullpup look....But the thought of being able to load up magazines at home, for a shotgun, seems nice.

Depends on the day... Any round shot from the hip is going to be a bit more difficult due to the frequent laughter, poor grammar, and duck calls from the peanut gallery. We do alright.
