New Ontario licences

I just don't want to have to carry anymore cards and papers than I already have to. Right now I carry everything in a sealed, hard plastic, belt container about the size and shape of a large wallet. Sooo, there's my RPAL, watercraft operators licence, outdoors card, deer/moose/bear seals, hound certificate, hunting at night certificate (for coon hunting) and applicable gun registration slips (until further notice). I don't want to carry, and potentially forget/misplace anymore paperwork than I already have to. In fact, I'd like to be able to streamline all of it. Have the federal licences- watercraft and firearms- printed as one and the provincial paperwork amalgamated into one card that could be scanned in the field by the C.O.s. That would mean just two cards and applicable game seals- once the lgr is gone.

The license and seal are attached to each other and together they arent any bigger then the old seals, so its actually less paper to carry. The whole license-seal "package" folds up to wallet size easily, so it will fit in a normal wallet without any problems.

Has anyone heard any truth to the rumor that smaller bait shops and hunting stores are no longer allowed to sell licenses? Friend of mine said he was turned away at the local shop and will have to go to one of the "Service Ontario" buildings.

As a side note/rant, the local MNR and drivers licensing bureaus were VERY quick and efficient. When they merged and became "Service Ontario" I've had nothing but slow service, always having to wait in line for people doing their friggin health card renewals, etc. Thank god I have one of the old red/white ones.

Some small outfits don't want to sell licenses, because they are a PITA to administer (and, they get next to nothing for selling them). Haven't heard that they weren't allowed to, though. As far as having to carry paper licenses, I haven't seen it yet, but that's the way it used to be before the beloved outdoors card. BTW, when fishing licenses were introduced, and later when the outdoors card was brought in, we were guaranteed that all funds raised would go to wildlife programs. I bet not 1% goes there.

Our store just did our training with the new system. Much less hassel and we can now scan the outdoors cards which speed up the processing. All the retailers get paid for the hassle of selling the tags is a mere $0.25 per license. Some of the non-res small game tags take 20-30 mins to process. :runaway:With the new system, most of those transactions should be under 5 mins.
