New Pistol Suggestions....

P220 is just like P226 but in single stack and .45 ACP.

Try to find an older Beretta 92 with straight dust cover. They will have all metal parts and are finished very nicely.

Well as luck would have it, I've been able to find a "made in Germany" stamped P220... for the price I figure I can't go wrong! Choice= P220!

Thanks everyone for the input!

Would love one in 38 super. Hens teeth

True enough! They weren't that popular back then when the 220 came with the heel mag release. Would be nice to turn back time! There was also one in a 7. something caliber, I think for the European non- mil caliber market.

And OP! Congrats on your choice! It has a sweet single action trigger for a duty type gun. You'll love it!

Yes that Sig P220 45 ACP was a beauty to shoot wasn’t it Ed ? Thanks Will ! I was surprised how manageable the recoil was and the result was a quick 10 rounds right where I wanted them . The bonus was the over sized holes ( compared to our 9mm ) were so much easier for these high mileage eyeballs to see.

Lol, yes those .45 holes are much easier to see Trailskinpat :)
To the OP, congrats on your purchase, I have no doubt you will enjoy it!

You have a 1911 (US military sidearm until 1990). The Beretta 92 replaced the 1911, so if you get a 92 you'll have a set. Then you can add a Sig P320 to complete the collection. If that means anything to you.

It was 7.65mm Para. Least common of the available calibres. Much like the P210 and BHP, small batches of 7.65mm, in addition to .38Super in the case of the P220, were produced for countries banning ownership of firearms using military or contemporary military cartridges. 7.65mm was also widely available in Europe at the time, being the predecessor to 9mm, and was still widely used in civilian shooting. I've heard some police forces used it as well, but don't have any reliable sources to verify. The regulations about military calibres are fairly prevalent in South & Central America as well as Mexico, though enforcement seems to be lax.

7.65mm Para and .30cal Luger are the same cartridge. 9mm is little more than a necked-up 7.65mm.
