The Hornady is a great press, once you've got it all figured you can add a case feed and a bullet feed. When you're used to reloading, you feel sort of dirty buying factory ammo. Well, that and you're never out of ammo! Good choice.
Now that you've got the press, you'll have to start reloading more, which will save you on ammo, then allow you to save more to buy more pistols (or rifles).
I've done the math on reloading for many calibres and 40 is probably the lowest paybeck calibre that I'll reload (on my Dillon 650). If I compare to using the Winchester white box value packs, reloading 40 cal at 5000 per year saves $494, once I factor in case, powder, primer, bullet etc. That does not include any labour (me!) or depresiation cost of the equipment.
9mm it is just so close in cost that i don't bother. Others, there's a much bigger savings as the calibres go up.
There's something very zen-like about re-loading. It seems so simplistic and mechanical, and really can't be rushed. So different from the normal daily life these days.
$25/50 is a bit pricey. I buy the Winchester value pack 40's for $33/100 at Lebaron's in either Ottawa or Montreal. They also have a Value pack 9mm that's about $25/100. The 40's I reload using the Win brass. The 9mm I just can't be bothered picking up at that price.
