New Progressive press or pistol

The Hornady is a great press, once you've got it all figured you can add a case feed and a bullet feed. When you're used to reloading, you feel sort of dirty buying factory ammo. Well, that and you're never out of ammo! Good choice.

Now that you've got the press, you'll have to start reloading more, which will save you on ammo, then allow you to save more to buy more pistols (or rifles).

I've done the math on reloading for many calibres and 40 is probably the lowest paybeck calibre that I'll reload (on my Dillon 650). If I compare to using the Winchester white box value packs, reloading 40 cal at 5000 per year saves $494, once I factor in case, powder, primer, bullet etc. That does not include any labour (me!) or depresiation cost of the equipment.

9mm it is just so close in cost that i don't bother. Others, there's a much bigger savings as the calibres go up.

There's something very zen-like about re-loading. It seems so simplistic and mechanical, and really can't be rushed. So different from the normal daily life these days.

Well I have to drive 45 mins to buy factory ammo so that in itself is a big expense. I also like shooting in the evening and stat holidays and the shops are closed. $25 a box of 50 is the cheapest I can get 40 S&W around here most times, I can easily run 4 boxes through in an afternoon...friggin expensive. Ive alos got a Lone Wolf barrel and plan on shooting some lead, even cut more cost. A special perk is I can now reload all winter and have thousands of rounds ready for the zombie apocalypse my son has told me about ;)

Cheers!!

$25/50 is a bit pricey. I buy the Winchester value pack 40's for $33/100 at Lebaron's in either Ottawa or Montreal. They also have a Value pack 9mm that's about $25/100. The 40's I reload using the Win brass. The 9mm I just can't be bothered picking up at that price.

If I could find ammo around here for that price I doubt I would reload either.

Well I have had my Hornady LnL AP for about 1 month and am super happy with it. I've loaded 600 rounds of 9mm and can't believe how easy it is with the Hornady. Only issue I had was on initial set up with the pawls and a Hornady took care of me with their Tech assistance. As a bonus I get 600 free rounds from the company which is a nice bonus, just have to pay shipping. Love the fact this is fully proggresive and never have to worry about a double charge. Solid kit...highly reccomended!!

Cheers!!
